Mock Walk (Day 98)…

by agirlandhermutt on April 10, 2010

I was up bright and early this morning just like I have been for the past few months. I needed to get ready to walk, walk, walk. Except this time I did it a bit different and walked with my fellow Avon Walk peeps at the Mock Walk.

The Mock Walk is a great way for walkers to get an idea of what it will be like to walk with a large group, get a glimpse of the route, and also get some mileage in. The route this morning was 10 miles long and had a number of hills thrown in there. I find it funny that I thought to myself, “eh. It is just 10 miles. No biggie.” ;)
For the majority of the route I walked by myself. I have a pace that is pretty consistent so I was able to stay towards the front of the group, but by no means was I leading the way. There was 1 rest stop to give everyone an idea of how that works. I’ve been training with very few breaks so I did a quick walk by the rest stop and kept on going. At mile 5 I sent a little update to my Dad. Half way there!

Around mile 6 I ran into a few other walkers and started chatting with them. It made the last few miles just fly by. It hit me then how much fun and how much easier it will be when my Dad is walking with me. My teammate is a vital component of me being successful in this event!

The Mock Walk was a success. Although the event isn’t a race IF it was and IF there were 100 people participating, I came in 20th today. Of course it isn’t a race, but it can’t ever hurt to be a little competitive, right?

The weather was great and it was good to get a sneak peak at the route. I even managed to win a gift certificate to Boston Running Co. A pretty good trade-off for waking up so early, huh?

The End…39 miles here I come!
