Radishbrowns…

by agirlandhermutt on August 10, 2010

Or maybe Radish hash? Hmm…either one would work really.

I bought these lovely little ladies the other day at the farmers market.

They were covered in dirt and just looking mighty fine. I love radishes! They are banging just served “Simple Style”, which means just sliced with a sprinkle of kosher salt across the top. Mmm…

These particular radishes are from a local farm in my town and they have the best peppery bite combined with a crispy crunch. Radishes are a great source of potassium and calcium too. Fun little veggie, huh?

As I was driving home from a LONG day at work I started to think about what dinner would consist of. I had the urge to stop at my fave sushi joint, but after a few days of eating out I was hungry (as Dorry would say)  for something different. I wanted food that would make me feel better and back on the right track. I wanted to COOK and create. Actually, I NEEDED to do all the above!

Radishes flashed through my brain and inspiration struck.

Enter Breakfast for Dinner, starring Radishbrowns!

In the mix:
-1 bunch radishes, trimmed and chopped
-1/4 small red onion, chopped
-1.5 tsp garlic powder
-1 tsp chili powder
-salt & pepper to taste (I used about .5 tsp of each)

*Chop the radishes into bite size pieces. Don’t they look just like red potatoes here?!

*Chop 1/4 onion and add to chopped radishes.

*Season radishes and onion with garlic powder, salt, pepper and chili powder.

*Coat a medium sized pan with cooking spray and heat radish mixture on medium heat for 8-10 minutes.

*When the potatoes, errr….radishes have a nice browned color and  a soft potato- type consistency, they are ready to go.

I added my radishbrowns to one Eggland’s Best egg and 2 pieces of fakin’ bacon. Yum-my!

There is only one thing that could make this breakfast better…Sailor’s Swagger Pineapple Hot Sauce. YEOW! It hurts so good.

You know that feeling you have when you eat a solid breakfast and you have energy for the entire day? Well, I have that now and it is 8p! Thank goodness…I have so much to do and so little time!

I’m off to do some laundry and hopefully have some quality puppy time before bed. :)

Question of the day: What are you in need of right now? A hug? A nap? Maybe a vacation?

I would never thought to use radishes as a potato substitute! Very clever. I am in need of a super silly movie right now. Like, So I Married an Axe Murderer for example.

That looks so delicious! Your photographs are amazing, too, and making me seriously hungry. :D

I’m in need of a stretch. I’ve been cooped up all day, and my legs and back are begging for relief.

Question — do the radishes hold their “bite” or do they mellow out a bit as you cook them? =)

They still have a little bite, but much MUCH more mellow. The longer they cook the less sharp they are.

Thanks for the compliments! I keep working on the photos!

I am in need of a nap, or maybe just sleep for the night… I had a gua sha + acupuncture treatment this afternoon, and I’ve been loopy ever since!

:)

I’m not sure about radish… I’ve actually never had them! :) so wow, lady, you may be able to teach me something else today! :)

You have to try them…and then try them again! They take a minute to learn to love. :)

Tell me about a gua sha!

Definitely a vacation here!

I never thought to use radishes like that, they look good. The only way I’ve ever ate them is sliced up in a salad.
