Fantastic Friday Five

by agirlandhermutt on June 24, 2011

Its been a while since I busted out with a Fantastic Five Friday post. It just so happened that all the things I’m digging on these past few weeks are “beauty” related. Really, this is just another way for me to be entertained and spend some $$$.

1. YouTube Obsessionemilynoel83. Known as one of the many “beauty gurus” on YouTube, Emily is probably the most relatable for someone of my advanced age. Winking smile  Her daytime job as a TV news anchor provides her with an opportunity to try out TONS of make-up, both drugstore and high end. On her YouTube channel she gives reviews, tutorials, and some great tips, including the one below on how to get drugstore dupes for high-end make-up faves.

2. Nude lipstick!- I have found the holy grail of nude lipsticks in the form of Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in shade 070 Soft Nude.  It has a nice subtle pinkish hue to it making it a nude lipstick that doesn’t totally blend into your skin. I love pairing this lipstick with MACs C-Thru lipgloss. Perfect combo!

3.  Shellac Nails– I’ve mentioned before that I had this particular manicure done. I’ve had it done twice now and I can officially say that I’m a fan. I don’t think I would necessarily get it done as a replacement of my regular manicures, but it is perfect for those special occasions where chipped nail polish is not an option. An additional bonus: They are dry the minute you are done! Just finish and go!

The ads say that shellac is supposed to last about 2 weeks, but it really differs from person to person. I have found that after about a week and a half mine looks kind of sad. I also think that having it on for too long dries my nails out. Be sure to do the research on these babies if you are concerned about any of the chemicals and such.

4. Flexible Snack Necklaces– A few weeks ago I spotted my aunt with this amazing necklace that was bendable and just overall an really big conversation piece. I made a few comments on it and next thing I knew I had one in the mail to me! I’m not sure where she got mine, but by googling “flexible snake necklaces” I found TONS of retailers carrying a variety of versions of this. It starts off as just a simple looking necklace, but can be molded and shaped into a tons of different shapes. My fave one so far is the knot (shown below).

5. Hair Treatments– I have A LOT of hair and it is EXTREMELY thick. Despite using a heat protector on my hair every time I style with heat, my hair needs a little extra loving every now and then. For the past few months I have been in love with Aussie Deep 3-Minute Miracle Moisture Treatment. After shampooing hair just massage this conditioner into your hair, let it sit for 3 minutes, and then rinse out. My hair comes out soooo soft, feeling refreshed, and smells amazing. I can really see the difference when I straighten it too. Everything looks smoother and healthy. You can get this at any drugstore, Target, etc for about $4.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend. I am on a quest for new bedding so I’m dedicating myself to that task for the next day or so. Tough life, huh? Winking smile

What is one beauty/fashion/make-up item you can’t leave home without?

For me it is chap stick, sunglasses and a hair band. I don’t like my lips to be dry, my eyes to squint, and I don’t like my hair to be in my eyes, mouth, nose when its windy.

I’m loving…
– Origins VitaZing moisturizer (it’s tinted with SPF!)
– MAC lip gloss in Right Image (the perfect pink color)
– brozer (duh, needs I explain?)
– the purple tube of Maybelline mascara

After working in Cosmetics for so long, you really can get great deals at the drugstore, but it takes some time to find them. Some of the items claim to X, Y, and Z but it’s just a claim not the actual truth without hello, photoshopping your face.

I heart Aussie products–they not only work but they smell good too! Thanks for mentioning that Youtube channel, I will definitely check that out.

I am a beauty product whore but if I had to think of something off the bat its Mentha lipgloss from Bath and Body Works. I am next to the outlet mall right now and are having a huge sale, I may need to stock up!

I can’t leave without a hair elastic and bobby pins! I always need the option to put up my unruly mane and pin back my long-ish bangs.
