Have we talked about my love for sushi before? Maybe?
I discovered sushi when I was in college when my big sister from my sorority convinced me to go with her to give it a try. I did and the rest is foodie love history!

The only downside of my sushi love…I don’t know when to stop. For someone who is counting points and trying to lose a few inches, sushi is sometimes a downfall for me.
Fortunately the fine folks over at Cooking with Trader Joe’s had a great idea and I ran with it.

Sushi Bowls!
Adapted from Cooking with Trader Joe’s

In MY Sushi Bowl Mix:
-1/2 cup rice
-1/2 package of Roasted Seaweed Snacks
-2 Crab sticks, broken into pieces
-1/2 pepper, sliced
-1 wedge Laughing Cow cheese
-1/2 cup grape tomatoes, sliced

The big thing about this sushi bowl is that you can literally put ANYTHING you want into it. Don’t care for crab? Use some leftover shrimp you had from your dinner the other night? Vegetarian? Just skip the whole crab situation totally! Substitute any veggie in that you want too.
There are 2 must haves for this bowl: rice and seaweed.
For this particular bowl I used Trader Joe’s Rice Medley. Its fully cooked frozen brown rice, red rice and black barley in 3 pouches. Each pouch contains 2 cups.

At around $3.49 for a box and just taking about 3 minutes to cook, this is one of my favorite products to have on hand in the house. Oh, and its 5 points for 1 cup. That is a lot of rice folks!

For the seaweed I used these Wasabi Roasted Seaweed Snacks from Trader Joe’s. I’ve seen something similar at Whole Foods too.

Honestly, the wasabi was a bit too much for me. My nose was burning on each bite and I had a hard time enjoying my bowl the first time around. The regular roasted seaweed snacks will work just fine the next time around, thank you very much.

I chopped up some grape tomatoes and peppers I had on hand. Added in a little Laughing Cow (or cream cheese) and some crab…almost a California Roll! The only thing missing was the avocado. So sad too bad!

Once everything is put together for your bowl, add about a tablespoon to each seaweed piece.

Include some crab, veggies, and a sliver of the cheese.

Roll & Enjoy! Or in my case where I stuffed my roll so much…FOLD & ENJOY!

This is a great quick lunch that takes just a few minutes to get together. Plus, it travels really well. I love having sushi at work mid-day!

Look at you miss creative! Of course TJ’s now has all this snazzy stuff, when I dont have one anywhere near me. Just not the wasabi flavoring b/c I’m not a fan. I actually saw some wasabi peas at Big Lots today and contemplated buying them. But I passed b/c no matter what I just cant get into the flavor of it even though I love hot stuff.
I thought I would love the wasabi peas but I had the burning feeling in my nose and needed to stop, but I couldn’t stop popping those suckers and then my nose burned all night long! Ugh…no self control.
Man- what a brilliant, freaking great idea that I wish I had thought of!! I love this!
That rice mix from TJs looks great too- I’ve only ever had their frozen brown rice, which is also delicious!
This is super similar to their brown rice, which I love too!
I love spicy tuna! I know, cliche, but it’s sooo good. I’ll eat almost all sushi though… yellowfin, eel, salmon. I mix a smidgen of wasabi into my soy for dipping and that’s plenty. My bf on the other hand LOVEs the stuff.
I’m right there with ya sista. Spicy tuna is where its at! Sounds like we are the same couple. I like just a bit of wasabi and The Scientist and can smother his sushi in it. Eek!
I love the sushi bowl idea! I am a sushi freak, and first ate it in college too…when my neighbor begged me to go with her. The rest is history
Lovely sushi love history.
Sushi is a passion and a total weakness for me too. I usually try to force myself to stick with sashimi for the main and get one fun, tempura roll of some kind. These bowls look fabulous, though for some reason I have never tried sushi at home.
