This past weekend was filled with all kinds of success. First I completed the 5k. Not so fast, but definitely not last! I also managed to get my nails done, eat some delicious sushi, spend some time with The Mutt, and take on my juicer again.

(The Color Run, CBC Juice, Cosmo Not-Tonight OPI Gel manicure, Sashimi!)

Filled with all types of pride I decided to bust out the juicer and tackle that again.
Last week I mentioned that I was a juicing failure. Well, I’m happy to report that is no longer the case. No, I’m not some expert juicer that could open my own juice cart, but I could make you a lovely little juice right from my kitchen that won’t make you throw up.
My first poo-looking juice was a big ol’ mixture of all kinds of vegetables. Since that wasn’t as successful as I hoped I decided to scale back on the ingredients and make a more simple juice.
First try…
CBC Juice (4-5 medium carrots, 2 beets, several stalks of celery)
When I picked up the CSA goodies last week I made sure to get some good juicing items. These were my first try after the last disastrous batch.
The result…a slighty frothy bright red glass of deliciousness.
As much as I enjoyed this glass, I did realize that celery is not my favorite flavor in the whole word. I don’t like to chew it and apparently I don’t love to drink it. Live and learn.
I also realized a super easy way to keep my cleaning down to a minimum. Just stick a plastic bag inside the pulp catcher part and cleaning is easy peasy.
Speaking of pulp, is this an extraordinary amount of pulp?Juicing experts, let me know. It sure is pretty!
Later in the weekend I decided to get a little more adventurous and busted out my OXO Cherry Pitter.
Cherry Ginger Limeade Juice (10 cherries, 2 apples, 1 lime, 1 hunk of ginger)
Spabettie left me some great juicing tips in my last post so I took her advice. The apples added a bit of sweetness that I liked and the ginger added a little zing. Everyone needs zing. The cherries and lime added a bit of tart that I just adore too.
Not having beets in this juice was kind of welcomed too. Not sure if everyone knows this but fresh beets=some interesting bathroom breaks. I thought I was dying the first time I hit the restroom after a bunch of fresh beets. I know that is TMI but consider yourself warned.

I didn’t just sit around and juice all weekend though. I also spent some time getting ready for a little trip to NYC! I’m going to BlogHer 2012 this week and I am SUPER excited.
I’ll be tweeting from @agirlandhermutt with the hastag #blogher12 AND I’m going to attempt to do some vlogging which I’ll post on my YouTube channel. We shall see how technology literate I am.
I’m going to miss this little monster while I’m gone, but I know he will be in good hands at his vacation home.

from the I can’t tell if that is a lot of pulp. I now have a twin gear juicer, which is much more efficient and produces little pulp… but using my centrifugal juicer DAILY for years, I learned a couple things… push really slow, it helps a bit. (the slower it goes = more juice <– it's science
) and if you do things like core the apples, clean everything well, you can use the pulp! bake it into breads, muffins, make dog treats for Cork.
and beets. I would say keep those to once a day? they are highly detoxing.
have fun at BlogHer!

from the PHOTO.
…haven’t had my coffee yet. my juice? yes!
I just wanted to say that I think the title “Juicing Success” placed above the photo of your face from the Color Run makes for a very amusing juxtaposition. If someone was not reading carefully, they might think your juicer exploded on you!
Ah!! Have fun at BlogHer!! Maybe one of these years I’ll blog more and go
