Hurricane Sandy Happenings

by agirlandhermutt on October 30, 2012

Phew. The past few days in Boston have been a little stressful. Hurricane Sandy made its way through our area yesterday and I’m happy to report that the Mutt and I survived. As a native Floridian, I know a thing or two about hurricanes and I’ve decided that I’m not a fan. 😉

The weekend wasn’t a total bust though. I officially marked another item off my 32 While 32 list!

8. Have pictures of Korky taken.

I wanted him to look his best, but I haven’t had Korky groomed since his skin infection. This was his first time back to the groomer. Such a good boy!

I met up with Dog Breath Photography in the Public Garden to have a 2 hour photo shoot that covered several areas including Beacon Hill and the Esplanade.

I haven’t seen any of the photos out of the camera yet, but they were so good with Korky! I will do a full post on the whole day once I get some of the photos.

Sunday was a day of rest and preparation. I picked up some water, batteries and got ready for Sandy to make her presence known. I also caught up on a ton of Hulu tv shows. I have some old favorites like Parks & Rec and Grey’s Anatomy, but I am also loving The New Normal and Go On. I also got a kick out of a commercial that comes on for K-Mart constantly. Its for putting a Furby on Layaway. Are these the old school Furby’s?! Am I missing something?!

Monday morning brought tons of huge winds and a bunch of rain. Boston residents were encouraged to stay home and you don’t have to tell me twice.

I have some serious issues driving in the rain and as I get older, in the dark. I don’t do it if at all possible. Monday was a repeat of Sunday. Just hanging out on the couch and watching Hulu.

I also had a little comfort food. Annie’s Organic Mac & Cheese with red peppers, grape tomatoes and a few chicken meatballs. Mac & Cheese tastes so much better when it is rainy and cold outside!

And then it happened around 4p. I was sitting on my couch and felt a drip, drip, drip on my head. I looked up just in time to see it start raining in my living room. This is NOT the first time this has happened and I was more annoyed than anything. I played Tetris with my living room furniture and moved everything away from the leak.

Then my power went out. Ugh.

I spent the rest of the evening monitoring the leak in the ceiling and reading by candlelight. Ironically my ipad and alarm clock (both with no power) are in the background in this photo.

As of this morning I still have no power and was coming up on 15 hours of no power. Rather than be all annoyed I just look at it as an adventure and also a great way for me to clean out my dirty fridge. Any volunteers to help me with that situation?! 😉

Oh, what a difference a week makes. Just last Monday I was sitting on the beach enjoying this view.

To the folks in New York and New Jersey, I hope you guys are making it through all of this ok. Stay safe and dry!

I am hoping to get back to regularly scheduled blogging this week, but I’m not making promises. If you haven’t gotten enough of me, be sure to check out my YouTube channel. Actually, just check it out either way. Fair warning…it isn’t food related. All beauty & fashion so far!

Eek, so sorry about your ceiling and power outage 🙁 I hope it gets fixed and you get power back soon! If only you were still at the beach and could have avoided Sandy! Thankfully we didn’t lose power or have any damage but I know we were lucky…

I have a hard time seeing at night too! I feel like such an old lady. I’ll wait until there are no cars in site before making a turn. I’m sure that makes everyone else on the road SUPER happy.

Glad you guys made it through the storm OK!
