Good morning! I don’t know about you but I’m a exhausted after Election Night! Staying up that late when I have to work super early the next morning is just torture. However, I’m glad that the election is done and we can all move forward. No political views on this page today! I will save that for all the folks on Facebook and Twitter who have been going at it for weeks now. 😉

Do you know what else is torture? Insanity.

Insanity is a 60-day total body workout from Shaun T. The workout consists of 10 DVDs that you rotate through based on a schedule. For the first month you rotate through 6 DVDs, then use 1 DVD for the recovery week and the rotate through the last 4 DVDs in the second month. The workout uses Max Interval Training, where you perform a longer period of killer exercises followed by a short recovery period. Basically it means that you sweat hardcore and work hard for several minutes and then take a quick water break then get right back to it.

This workout doesn’t require any exercise equipment. Just you and something to wipe up your sweat.

Before you start the workout and then again at specific points in the 60 days, you perform the fit test. A series of moves that you try to do as many times as possible.

Ready for some honesty?

I did the fit test last Thursday. I wanted to die at the end of it. At the end of the fit test! Not even the workout! I was watching the video and actually cursing at Shaun T and his stupid students. As I was doing the fit test I would start to feel pretty good and then look up to realize that I looked like I was the slow motion version of what was on my screen. I can only get better folks.

However, I felt like I had accomplished something and was ready to get to it. So on Friday I took the plunge and did the Plyometric Cardio Circuit. It was a mix of cardio and lower body exercises.

After the video was over I just laid on the floor and suffered for a bit. But then I decided to tweet about finishing and instantly was inundated with “Congrats” and “Nice job!” tweets. So I got up. I can’t be acting all hardcore online while in reality I’m rolling around on the floor whining.

I woke up the next day a little sore, but READY TO GO. I was ready to show Shaun T I could do it! There is something about him that makes him not one bit annoying and super motivating. I didn’t get tired of his voice (sorry Jillian!) and he doesn’t say anything ridiculous that I have to stop to laugh at.

However, he does do things like these jumps. Which are not cool. The height of my jump is similar to the girl on the right, who is actually landing. The girl on my left  just drives me nuts. Show-off. 😉

The second day was the Cardio Power & Resistance workout. It focuses on upper-body exercises and Insanity power moves. All not my strengths. I surprised myself with how well I did on a few of the push-up type exercises. Although I got a bit too cocky and ended up slipping and knocking my face into my hardwood floor. Reality check folks. The power moves are most jumping moves and I was struggling through those. My knees hate jumping so I modified where I could. Another sweaty day, but I made it through!

I was pumped to see that the next day was the Cardio Recovery day. Until I realized that in Shaun T’s mind recovery=squats, lunges and planks. I’m not sure what I thought would happen. He would just let us lay in savasana (corpse pose) for the DVD? Right. Long story short…I have a weak core and I paid for that.

I took the next day off even though the calendar doesn’t call for it. I was just super busy and didn’t have much time for the 40 minute DVD. I did a few TIU workouts and called it a day.

Yesterday was my 4th workout and I was ready to try Pure Cardio. The beginning of the DVD started out like all the others with a pretty extensive warm-up and stretching, which I really like. Then it got to it. No intervals. Just cardio, cardio, cardio. The folks in the video were dropping like flies and so was I. At one point I looked down at my mat and Kork was licking the spot were I had sweat so much there was a puddle. So gross but I was so tired that I couldn’t even push him away.

Result. Hot mess.

Tonight is going to go back to that first real workout, the Plyometric Cardio Circuit. I’m hoping for some improvement and some serious sweat. I know there will be sweat, but fingers crossed there is a little bit of improvement!

So I don’t know have a full review of Insanity because I haven’t been doing it long enough to get any results, but I can tell you that I feel amazing. I feel accomplished that I am getting through the workouts and not just watching them from the couch. The workouts are similar enough that I’m picking up the moves, but rotate enough that I’m not bored…yet. I love Jillian, but sometimes doing the same video for several days in a row can be a little bit much. I’m not really following the diet plan that comes with it because I’m sticking with the Tone It Up way of eating (they are doing the Holiday Hottie series right now!!!).  Maybe I’ll try it at some point, but I’m good for now. I plan on keeping with it for the 60 days and the plan is to do 6 days and 1 off, but not necessarily the day they suggest. A girl has got things to do man!

Insanity claims that it is the “hardest workout program put on DVD.” They just might be right!

Have any of you tried Insanity or any of the other BeachBody workouts? Opinions? Thoughts?

One last thing. Speaking of sweat…I’m officially a #SweatPink Ambassador! I’m stoked to be a part of a great group of encouraging folks! Woot!

SO proud of you!!! I’m doing RevAbs right now. I did LOVE P90x, but it’s hard to fit in a whole hour workout sometimes. Congrats for taking the plunge!!

WAY TO GO ERIN!! My niece Harmony did/does insanity and she is smokin’ hot!! I joined curves about 6 weeks ago and it seems to be good for me. I go 6 days a week.

Well obviously my goal is “smokin’ hot”. However I will just go for “not dead”. 😉

Nice work with 6 days a week! I’m impressed!

Awesome!! I want to try this out- I love a good ass kicking. Especially one that leaves you laying dead on the floor. I would LOVE to do one of these 60-day programs, but I teach 8 classes a week- and I count those as my workouts. There isn’t room for much else 🙁
Shaun T. is hot- and I just heard that hebats for the other team. I saw it on some sight that was a list called “too bad ladies- he likes dudes” or something like that.

It definitely is not a light workout to fit in after all your classes!

Apparently he married his long time boyfriend just last month. Twitter told me. 🙂

I really love Insanity and wish I could get back to it but with all the jumping around it is really hard to do when there are people below us and it bothers them.

You make me want to finally try this!
