Post Cruise Fitness Update and Celebration!

by agirlandhermutt on April 12, 2013

Oh hey…check out the little MyFitnessPal widgety thing over on the right hand side of the page. See what it says?! Yuuuup. 35 lbs. GONE! Technically it is only 34.6 but MFP gets all feisty and likes to round up. I’ll take it.

The last time I did an official (in my house) weigh-in was right before I left for the cruise. When I returned 10 days later I weighed in at 2 lbs more than my pre-cruise weight. I figured that wasn’t horrible, but it was enough of a gain to make me lose an April DietBet by 3 lbs. Waaahhhh.

I got in Monday night and by Tuesday afternoon I was right back to the whole working out schedule. The result was by Friday those 2 extra pounds were gone. Thank you water retention! And by my official weigh-in day this past Wednesday I was done 4.6 more lbs. A total of 6.6 lbs lost since I returned from the cruise and 4.6 lost from my pre-cruise weight. BOOM!

I’m sure some of you are probably thinking that gaining two pounds while on the cruise is not really a win situation. But I’m pretty pleased with that. Food is EVERYWHERE on a cruise. And alcohol. I love booze. Margaritas were my drink of choice this time around and we all know how calorie friendly those bad boys are.

I was freaked out at the beginning of the trip with what I was eating. I didn’t want to eat bread. I wanted to eat tons of salad. I wanted to LOSE weight on the cruise. Then I realized I was making myself nuts. I bought a few sour gummy bears, chugged down a pina colada, and had some grilled chicken for dinner. That is called balance and I have learned that I am no expert on that.  Once that guilt of eating “off limit” foods went away, I had a great time and started to enjoy the food a bit more. Oh hey there cheese plate!

As an Easter present, my parents were kind enough to pay for a few spinning classes on the cruise. I have fallen in love with spinning, but at first I was a little “eh” about working out on the ship. I hopped onto the bike around 7:30 the second day of our cruise and I LOVED the class. We used heart rate monitors and I became obsessed with watching the number. Not obsessed in that weird I will cry if I don’t hit a certain number kind of way, but obsessed in that I didn’t even realize 45 minutes passed when the class was over because I was having fun with my HRM kind of way. Know what I mean? I ended up taking a few classes and love, love, loving them.

So now I am back from the cruise. Back to my gym schedule. And back to <my pre-cruise weight.

Since making the switch to a full-time exercising lifestyle (vs. just working at it part-time), my schedule, for the most part, looks like this…

Monday-
TRX or 5k Training + Body Pump

Tuesday-
Strike Kick

Wednesday-
Real Ryder Spinning

Thursday-
TIU workout or 5k Training + Body Pump

Friday-
OFF!

Saturday-
Total Body Melt & 5k Training

Sunday-
Zumba

Basically it boils down to 3 days of strength training and 5 days of cardio. The 5k is a new addition so I’m trying to figure out the best way to fit it into a schedule packed with classes I really like to do. The TRX is a Groupon thing so that may change once that package is done. I don’t want to overdo anything, but at the same time I really feel like I can push it a little harder than I was before. I’m not into that saying “No pain, no gain”. I know I need to put in the effort, but I don’t need pain. I just need gains.

In other fun news, I bought a heart rate monitor. Thanks to everyone for your feedback on twitter on what you liked, didn’t like, etc about your HRM. I ended up getting the Polar FT4. It seemed pretty similar to the FT7, but I liked the bronze color. It works with my whole rose gold obsession. Priorities folks.

Thanks to Stina from Running in Chucks for the heads-up about the Zombies, Run app. So. Much.Fun.

Yea. So that’s that. I’m no expert. I’m still trying to figure out what works best for me. I take a little step back (or 2 lbs up), but I just keep moving. I am trying to have a good attitude about the entire process and taking it day by day.

I hope you have a great weekend! I have a long weekend because of Marathon Monday, or as we like to pretend we are celebrating, Patriot’s Day.

See ya next week!
