Weekend Recap: Enjoying my Present

by agirlandhermutt on July 22, 2013

Lately I’ve been finding myself doing things that previously I would never ever do before. Some might call this hypocritical. I call it “exploring my options”. Which is really just a nice way for me to tell myself that I *might* have been wrong about a few things.

I’ve definitely heard myself say in the past that Friday nights were meant to be enjoyed. By enjoy I mean drinking wine and eating cheese. Why anyone would go to the gym or workout was beyond my comprehension. This past Friday I spent the majority of the evening at a yoga class at Back Bay Yoga. Ugh. I annoy myself so much sometimes.

In typical Erin fashion I had to make things a little more difficult for myself. I did laundry the night before and EVERY single one of my sports bra was in there. I didn’t realize this until I went to grab my bag and every single bra was still wet. Solution? Dry it on my bag at work. Classy!

Before my oh-so-relaxing yoga class I did a little shopping at a store that I thought I would never shop in because Good Gravy are their clothes expensive. Lululemon! I immediately texted my NYC friend Meg to let her know what I had done since we have shared in a few Lululemon jokes together. She supported my purchases so I breathed a sigh of relief. Thanks Meg!

I picked up a few goodies including a few headbands, a yoga mat strap and a tank. As I was checking out the woman asked me “Blue or black bag?!” in a very excited voice. Well, blue, of course!

Seriously. What is up with that dumb bag? Someone explain this to me? Why is there Bigfoot on it? Is that a ranger riding a whale?! Help me Lululemon experts.

So why the change of heart? Things are meant to change and I’m learning to accept that. If I want my body to change, then I should be working on changing my mind too. Right?! I figure shopping is a great place to start. 😉

So lets see…weekend recap so far. I did yoga, shopped at Lululemon and attempted to stalk Justin Bieber at a hotel in Back Bay. It was an unsuccessful attempt I should mention. How do those teenage girls do it?!

A typical Saturday includes me at my strength class, but this time the BF and I packed up the car and headed out to the beach. Unfortunately I was the slow poke that morning and we ended up getting to the beach around noon. Just in time for the sand to burn my feet, the water to be so cold that I felt hypothermia coming on and some nasty bugs to keep biting me. Beach day FAIL. To top it off, after about 2 hours our perfect beach day went from this…

to this.

Secretly I was glad to get out of there and away from those little blood sucking bugs. We took a quick drive up to Portsmouth, NH for a late lunch/early dinner. By the time we got back home it was late and neither of us were in the mood to do much. So we went to Target.

Lets make a promise to each other. If I tell you that I was at Target at 8pm on a Saturday night more than 2x in a month, you tell me I have a problem. Deal?!

We finished the night with an episode of Orange is the New Black on Netflix. Anyone watching this? I am really into it, but at the same time I cringe in embarrassment so much that its a little painful to watch.

On Sunday morning I was up BEFORE the butt crack of dawn to get Karen and I out to Webster, Ma. A few months ago we signed up to be volunteers at the Iron Girl Triathalon. Our assigned job was to hand out medals.

Unfortunately, Karen and I were in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up on “no spectators in the woods” patrol. We spent the entire race standing on opposite sides of this bit of woods making sure no spectators cut through since it was part of the race path. Fortunately I had fun cheering on the runners as they passed and encouraging them to keep going. I didn’t even touch a medal. Waaah.

Karen and I still had a lovely time texting each other from across the woods though. She recently became engaged so we had plenty to talk about!

In other news…I’m totally being a participant in next year’s Iron Girl. Forget this whole spectator business. I’m going to compete! I just need to work on learning how to swim like a real adult. Baby steps.

We were done with the race around 11 and headed back home. I was exhausted from NOT competing so I took a nap. I woke up to see Korky keeping a watchful eye on me. Sometimes this dog is so creepy. Cute, but creepy.

I thought about just rolling around in my bed pretending to be awake for a bit, but then suddenly got the kick in the butt to get up and head out to yoga. I got to SASY 2 minutes before the 4p Vinyasa Flow class started. I’m so glad I made it! It was a nice combination of poses and deep stretching/relaxation. I felt all kinds of OM on the way home.

I was too lazy to cook dinner so I let the BF grill me up a big ol’ piece of chicken and onion paired with a super cold seltzer. Dry in July is still in effect.

Hot banana peppers made it the perfect trio. Obsessed with these little suckers.

By the time bedtime rolled around I was completely ready for it. The weekends just go by so fast but I’m glad that I’m getting better at fitting in plenty of time for enjoyment, fitness and a bit of being lazy.

I’ll finish my recap with the quote I picked for Day 21 of the #trulycommitted challenge.

My Mom used to say this all the time to me as a kid. When I was in college she would often send me quotes to start my day, but this one was always one she would come back to when I was having a hard time. Right now I’m  the best spot physically (and mentally!) that I have been in a while and I can appreciate this quote even more.

Enjoy your present and I’ll see ya soon!

Just started watching that Netflix show — I loved the first few seasons of Weeds and this one is a bit more…interesting, to say the least!

Totally interesting! I watched the first few seasons of Weeds and then just got distracted but now I want to get back into it too. So many shows, so little time.

I fell out of Weeds around Season 4 or so, but finally finished it on Netflix last year. It definitely sucked for a couple seasons (or at least wasn’t nearly as good as the first two or three), but it got really good again in the end so it’s worth sticking it out and finishing!

I haven’t started OITNB yet, but it’s on my list! My current obsession is with web-series(eseseses??)
