Welcome to a new week! In just a few days I’m heading out on vacation so I’m doing my best to keep it together and not get too distracted until then. I have a tendency to check out into vacation mode a few days before the actual days off occur. I know I’m not alone in that.
I have a few fun things I wanted to share today!
-I am officially a 2x Ultimate Bootcamp graduate! Thursday night was my last class.
Photo on the left is the end of Round 1 bootcamp and on the right is the end of Round 2. They are about 4 weeks apart.
I have to admit…I’m glad it is over. I absolutely LOVED bootcamp, but I’m ready to try new things. The first time I ever tried bootcamp was back in April. The stars weren’t aligned on that day and I hated every minute of that class. When I decided to try again, I was about 20 lbs lighter and had been a regular at the gym for some time. It was such a different experience! Over the past 8 weeks I have seen major improvements with not only my endurance, but also my ability to just try things. I stopped being embarrassed that I would be last or not the best and just did them. I surprised myself every single time. I was never the worst! I would definitely do bootcamp again, but not likely until the Spring. They hold classes indoors during the winter and that just reminds me too much of P.E. from elementary school. I’m having horrible flashbacks to dodgeball and running laps around the basketball court. Uh…no
-I ran my 2nd 5k this weekend! Well, run is a strong word. Megan and I ran the Electric Run on Friday night.

I have a tiny little confession to make. I’m working through some knee pain. I’ve had it for a little over a month, but for the most part have tried to ignore it. I have an appointment to get it checked out when I get back from vacation so there isn’t much I can do about it until then. Friday was the run and bootcamp had done its damage on my knee the night before. My spinning buddy, Megan, was totally fine with a walk/run situation. We ran the first mile or so then did walk/jog/walk for the rest of the run. We finished in about 40 minutes and that included stops for photos!
One of the top searched for posts on my blog is about The Color Run. In general, and more so as I think about it, The Color Run sucked. It was poorly planned, way too hot and having powder on me wasn’t that entertaining.
The run took place at Gillette Stadium. I have a tendency to be overzelous when planning so picking a run that started at Gillette on a Friday afternoon was not my best decision. It could have easily taken us 2 hours to get there AND the Red Sox had an afternoon playoffs game. Ugh. All potential for a miserable situation. But lucky us…we got there just fine! We had tons of time to kill so we walked around Patriot’s Place, a shopping area around the stadium, and people watched. There were costumes and people watching galore. Lots of inappropriate shorts! How is it comfortable to wear shorts that actually have the bottom of your butt showing? Does that feel weird?
I should note that Megan and I picked up our race packets earlier in the week. Thank Goodness. There were 15,000 people in this run and about 14,000 of them were in the check-in line that afternoon.
As it got dark everyone’s glow-in-the-dark goodies started to light up. I forgot how much I love any event that involves a black light. The skating rink was where it was at when I was a kid. My spinning class even does the black light fun. I love seeing how white my teeth look.
The course was around Gillette Stadium and THROUGH it. It was pretty cool to be in the same stadium I was in just a few weeks ago for a game, but this time all decked out in black lights and fog machines.
Taking pictures of glowing things is tough, but I had to show you how we got into the stadium. There is a really long ramp that goes all the way to the top. They lit it up and everyone ran up that ramp.
It is hard to see but there are literally thousands of people running up that ramp.
I know there were some complaints about how this wasn’t a true “run” because there were so many walkers and slower runners, but seriously? It isn’t timed and we ran through Gillette Stadium. Like actually THROUGH THE STADIUM.Were people expecting to PR?! I even read that someone was mad that people stopped to take pictures at the cool displays. Get over yourself weirdos. That was the whole point!
We had fun. Lots of fun things to look at. A really cool course. Good company.
-When I woke up Saturday I definitely did not want to go to the gym, but it was shoulder day and I do love a good shoulder workout. They have become my new favorite body part.
Have I mastered the art of a gym mirror selfie yet? Eh. I think I have some work to do. I get flustered and end up taking a photo of my shoes first almost every time.
That night the BF and I had plans to eat at Alma Nove in the Hingham Shipyard. It is a restaurant that is owned by the Wahlberg Brothers. You know…Marky Mark and NKOTB. Their brother, Paul, is the Executive Chef.
The location is right on the water and we had our reservation at the perfect time to enjoy the sunset. Fail at taking any pictures. I haven’t been in the picture taking mode (unless it is a selfie!) lately. These are from their website to show you how great the outdoor seating area is and the beautiful location.
I did get a few shots of our meals though. We started with the mussels, which were excellent! The broth was a toasted almond butter that wasn’t too rich and complimented the mussels perfectly.
I had the cod for dinner and the BF had the pork. My cod was cooked perfectly and the garlicky risotto was the right addition to the plate. The serving size was pretty generous too.
The BF’s pork chop was HUGE. I enjoyed the spinach and feta, but the apple puree on the top threw me off. I don’t like fruit flavors in savory food though. BF thought it was great. There was plenty to take home too!
Both were a touch heavy on the salt, but I’m a salt fan so this wasn’t a problem for me.
-Sunday was a full on “get my life in order” day. Do you ever have those kind of days? When you look around your house and think to yourself “holy crap, when did my house explode all over itself?!”
I started with an all out gym day. Arms, cardio and abs. The cardio portion was intense and by the middle of the workout I thought I was going to pass out right on the elliptical. I pushed through though and found myself entertained at how much sweat was pouring out of my body. And all over the elliptical. So gross!
In the afternoon I crashed for an hour nap and then woke up to do laundry ALL DAY LONG. How does that happen?! I woke up to one pair of clean undies on Sunday and knew that I needed to get on my dirty clothes situation.
This weekend was perfect. It was fun, relaxing and I got a ton of stuff done! Tonight I’m going to dinner with my a few of my girlfriends and I couldn’t be more pleased to start the week off with them.
