Surprises, New Hair, and SOWA!

by agirlandhermutt on May 7, 2012

Hello friends! I had a busy weekend so lets skip all the shenanigans and get right into it, shall we?!

Friday Night
The Scientist said he has a surprise for me and asked me to meet him at Rock Bottom in the Theater District for dinner. We had dinner and as we were leaving I looked up and saw a sign on a local theater that said “The Shins” were coming to play. I got so excited and told The Scientist that we had to get tickets to see them. Then I looked back and realized that they were playing that same night. I looked back and The Scientist and he had two tickets for us! I was surprised with concert tickets!

The concert took place in the Wang Theater which is just gorgeous on the inside.

Such a fun night and a total surprise!

Fun Fact: Rock Bottom was the first restaurant that The Scientist and I ate at together just by ourselves and The Shins was one of the first things we talked about the night we met. 🙂

Saturday
I woke up bright and early to hit the salon and get my hair all changed up for the summer.

Before & After

I love my dark hair, but it is fun to try something different for the summer.

Since it was Cinco de Mayo I met up with The Scientist a little later in the day to grab a margarita and celebrate. Having a plethora of Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood is a nice bonus on May 5th!

We finished up our drinks and headed out to the most exciting part of the day…to see The Avengers! I love all of those super hero type movies (although Thor was not my fave) and was just as excited to see this movie as my nerdy comic book loving Scientist.

I loved the movie! The change of Mark Ruffalo as hulk was perfect and I didn’t hate ScarJo like I had thought I would. Oh, and who doesn’t love a good Robert Downey Jr moment?!

Fun Fact: To see this movie 3D digital cost $35 for 2 tickets through Fandango. SERIOUSLY! I kept my glasses. That was the least they could do for me.

Sunday
Sunday=Shopping! It was the return of the SOWA market for the season and I could not have been more excited.

My pal, Meg, and I enjoyed a day of outdoor shopping and dog watching. Come on…how cute is that pup?! I wanted to sneak up and steal him.

Lunch was from the BonMe food truck. Mmm…

While I was gobbling up my sandwich I couldn’t help but laugh when I caught this sign out of the corner of my eye on a rib food truck next door. Technically…they are right! 😉

 Final Results of Shopping…

Pickled Grapes from Grillos Pickles.

Nothing but goodness in these bad boys!

Myer Lemon and Sea Salt Popcorn from Quinn Popcorn.

LOVE tshirt in Sign Language & Hindi from Zamforia. Love the cute potato chip bag packaging!

Reusable Snack Bags from Edie & Fin

The rest of the night was spent with this guy just hanging out and looking out the window.

No grapes for you buddy!

Fun Fact: The SOWA Market is a MUST visit if you are in town throughout the summer!

Weekend Recap: Enjoying Boston and SOWA Market

by agirlandhermutt on October 25, 2011

Hello friends! It is absolutely a gorgeous day in Boston and I’m going to spend it doing the thing I know best…working. 😉 Eh, a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do.

Fortunately, this weekend was a much needed break from a hectic life and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Don’t you ever have those weekends where you don’t make any plans just because you need to not have to be on the go? <—Confusing much?  Well this was that weekend for me.

There were some walks to enjoy the changing of the leaves.

A few of the walks included the Mutt so he could stretch those cute little pup legs. Stretching his legs typically involves me telling The Scientist to run around with him while I run the opposite way. Then we let Kork turn around to run back to me. Ahh…life of a dog on a leash. 😉

I cleaned my house, made some yummy meals for the week, and rewarded myself with a trip to the SOWA Market. I know I’ve talked about this market several times in the past, but each time I go I am blown away by the amount of creativity that people have.

This Sunday my obsession was with It’s Sew You by Kristin. Her use of color combined with patterns and textures really made her products unique.

Although I was loving all her fabric items, I was crushing hardcore on these fantastic brooches. Each one was a weird combo of colors that just screamed “BUY ME!” I ended up going home with one of these suckers and I am stoked to wear it.

Keeping with my funky pattern purchases I always was sucked in by a new vendor to me called I Heart Arm Warmers. For some reason any time someone writes “I heart” or “I <3” they are immediately in my good graces. Is it my hidden 12 year old dying to come out?!

I completely forgot to take a picture of all her goodies. I think I was a little overwhelmed with all of the choices. All of the armwarmers are handmade out of recycled sweaters and each pair is unique.  I ended up with a pair of brown cashmere with leopard hearts and a pair of red & white herringbone. They both kind of look like these.

I’m wearing mine today and let me tell you that I’m on the verge of looking just like this girl. Heh. Ok, maybe not.

My time at the market wasn’t all ca-ching! ca-ching! I also picked up some pretty delicious eats. Including an amazing veggie taco from the BBQ Smith food truck. You never know where you are going to find great veggie options!

The taco included sautéed greens, black beans, some other veggies and a nice dollop of goat cheese.

My final purchase from the market was from Samira’s Homemade, straight out of Belmont, Ma. Supportin’ the Locals!

Spicy Stuffed Grape Leaves = Amazing Little Nuggets.

Their hummus is out of this world and I have been thinking about these stuffed grape leaves for days. They had to come home with me! Do any of you make these at home? I need to learn how to do this.

I hope you all had a great weekend! On the agenda for this week is trying out a few new recipes, dinnah with friends, and the start of Halloween. SPOOOKKKKY!

Are you a crafty person? What can you make with your hands?

Have a great day!

The start of the SOWA (Day 142)…

by agirlandhermutt on May 23, 2010

You know its summer when I bust out my first SOWA trip! The SOWA is the South End Open Market. The market is a variety of vendors in an outdoor setting. You can find everything from photography, paintings and blow glass to handmade soaps, tshirts, and funky jewelry. I love seeing the things that people make with their own hands and creativity.

I forgot my camera at home so my little phone camera had to make do. So sad! It was a beautiful day and I would have loved to spend it just taking photos of all the awesome products. One thing I really thought was awesome was these floor mats. They are hand-painted floor cloths and they are absolutely STUNNING. My photos don’t do them any justice. If I had $250 to spare, the red poppy mat would be MINE.
There was some uber creative displays in place too. This nifty vintage store set up shop in an airstream. Forget those boring white tents. Use a trailer! In addition to the funky finds outside, you could also go inside to do some shopping. How great is that?!

Just across the way I spotted a bright tent with these fantastic onesies. I don’t have kids, but have plenty of friends that do. If you are one of my friends who has a kid that *may* be named Tyler, skip this little blurb of photos or risk spoiling a surprise. 😉 These tshirts and onesies are just perfect for the kid that already has a bit of an attitude before he can speak!
This is the uber cute item that came home with me. Just imagine your kid in something so cool!
*Michelle, you can start reading….NOW*

I couldn’t let the baby be the only one rocking an entertaining shirt, so I picked one up for myself. Nooo…not a tuxedo shirt. A MUSTACHE SHIRT! Everything from this vendor has a mustache theme and it cracks me up. Be sure to check out Fuzzy ink’s site. Their shirts are quality!
Overall, successful day of shopping at the SOWA! Korky got quite a few pets and “oh how cute!” comments too so I think he enjoyed the afternoon as well.
It is a beautiful, but WARM day so I am heading home to relax for a bit before getting my 30 Day Shred on!
