32 While 32

Say hello to the 33 While 33 list!

by agirlandhermutt on February 27, 2013

Hello friends! For the past few years I have been making a list of fun things to do over the course of the year that I call my “X while X” list. This past year I had the 32 While 32 list. Some years have been a bit more successful than others and it gets harder as I get older. These aren’t resolutions, but more things that I think could be fun, talked about forever but still haven’t done, or would improve my life in some small way. Nothing major and definitely geared towards having a good time!

This past year I added a little bit of incentive to get things done by allowing myself to donate to a spa day for each item I marked off my list and donate to the local Humane Society for those that I did not. So not really a consequence to give to a charity that I support on a regular basis, but definitely a bonus to give to my spa day fund!

The final result…*Drumroll, please!*…

18 were completed for a total of $90 in the Spa Day Fund!
14 were not completed for a total of $70 in donation to the

Not too shabby, but still room for tons of improvement. All those fun things that I didn’t get around to doing because I was doing other fun things not on the list. 😉

If you want to check out how I did on my 32 While 32, check out this list for all my updates! I’ve improved quite a bit over the years.

Of course, it is now a new year so I have a new list. READY FOR THE 33 WHILE 33?!

32.    Eat lobster in Maine.
33.    Go skydiving!

The stakes are almost the same…for those items that I accomplish I get $5 towards a new bag fund. I’m thinking some top notch Michael Kors of some type. For those that I do not accomplish I will add $5 towards a donation to the Merwin Memorial Free Animal Clinic. <—Don’t worry. I donate on a regular basis, but this would be in addition to my yearly donation.

Wish me luck on my quest to cross of these 33 fun things and let me know if you have a list of your own! I would love to see your lists (and steal ideas for future lists! ;).

Weekend Recap: Outdoors and Loving It

by agirlandhermutt on January 14, 2013

This weekend was one of those that was just too short with too much fun packed into it. Despite being a bit dreary, I was able to get outside for some fresh air, spend some time with friends, and also get all dressed up for a fancy party.

Weekend Recap: Instagram Style

No pictures were taken but it involved a spaghetti squash casserole and a puzzle. After 2 hours of trying to put the boarder together on the puzzle, we called it a night. No one will accuse me of being a puzzle pro.

It was a really overcast day but it was the warmest it had been in awhile. My friend Karen was back in town after a birthday getaway and we got together for a Walk & Chat.

I live right near an entrance to the Charles River path so we walked twice around the river totaling 4 miles. Korky came with us and was pooped by the end of the walk. It was nice to be outside in the fresh air and getting some activity in with a friend. I made a mental note to do this more often!

Saturday night was a holiday party and an opportunity for me to get dressed up.

Yes, I am wearing the exact same outfit from my work holiday party a few weeks ago. I absolutely loved the dress and knew I was going to wear it twice. When I went to pick out the jewelry and shoes the second time around I figured if it worked the first time to stick with what I know. Have I mentioned that in my older age I hate heels? Why don’t they make nicer looking dressy flats?!

I think the nice yellow bracelet really adds to the look. Oh hey! I’m 21 so I can drink!

Note: I didn’t have a stitch of booze that night. I’m taking a break and was pretty proud of myself for not indulging. Liver repair FTW!

I woke up with one thing on my mind…mark one of my 32 While 32 items off the list. I did a quick glance over the list and #32 jumped out at me.

32. Take Korky to the beach.

Despite being a Florida native (just like his Mama!) and living in Boston for over 7 years, Korky has never been to the beach here. He has been walked near the beach, but never really gone on it. I took him once to the beach when I lived in Connecticut, but he hated it and ignored me for 3 days straight after that visit. I knew I could never take him in the summer (way too hot for his paws!), so when I saw that it was cloudy but still kind of warm I packed us up and headed down to South Boston.

We walked around Castle Island for a bit and ended up with 3 miles done on the FuelBand. Then we finally decided to take the plunge to the sandy beach.

Unlike the white sands of Pensacola, Carson Beach is a little…dirty. There were a few beer cans and Dunkin Donut cups that had been washed up, but fortunately very few other people or dogs. Korky investigated the water right up to the edge but the minute it touched his little paws he was out of there.

Kork enjoyed sniffing around and kind of rummaging through the sand, but overall he did not seem impressed with the beach. We went. We saw. We don’t have to do it again.

Korky is really more of a grassy park dog.

The weekend ended with some flowers.

The making of a homemade body scrub from a Tone It Up recipe. I only made half and it fit perfectly into this little IKEA jar.

And I rounded out the night with a tasty shrimp, spaghetti squash, and Laughing Cow cheese dinner. Cheese on a plate=Happy Erin.

Although I wasn’t really productive at home (or at all really), I had a great weekend just enjoying my surroundings. My spirit is all the better for it. Possibly I might even see a little sparkle in my smile?!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Anyone else enjoy the great outdoors over the past few days?

Update: 32 While 32!

by agirlandhermutt on January 7, 2013

Friends! This is the start to my first (and many others) full week back to work for 2013. Unlike most Mondays, I was actually looking forward to it. I had a great weekend and a really nice start to the year.

Thanks for the feedback on my word for the year. Like every year I have high hopes for making things happen, but this year especially I have a good feeling.

One thing I am doing to start the year off on the right foot is to take a look at my 32 While 32. I have quite a few items to cross off the list, but I also have a bit of updating to do too! Just recently I marked, #26. Take a sewing class, off the list. I’ve taken another sewing class before but it just didn’t stick so I decided to go back to the basics. I signed up for a simple tote bag class at Gather Here in Cambridge.

The studio where the classes are taught are super cozy and cute so I, of course, forgot to take a picture of the place. So much fabric and yarn!

The class was five people with one instructor. She walked us through the basics of marking out our pattern, cutting and then moved to the sewing room.

We were able to pick our own fabric and the pattern was a simple tote bag. Something we could easily finish within the class time and walk out of class with a finished project.

My final tote bag!

The fabric was pretty cool and immediately caught my eye. I loved all the little people scenes, animals, and the monochromatic colors.

I had so much fun that I bought fabric to make a few more. Once those are done I am going to sign up for a more advanced class!

I’ve also been working on #24. Visit 3 museums. I have visited two so far but still need one more. On Saturday night I ALMOST finished this one, but not quite. I went to see the Discover the Dinosaurs exhibit!

For one weekend a big exhibit was set up at the Seaport World Trade Center. The exhibit had about 10 different dinosaur scenes that were set up with backdrops, lighting, sound effects, and animatronics to make it engaging and reflecting of the time when the dinosaurs lived.

The whole exhibit was geared towards kids so you could touch and feel the dinosaurs and make them move with controls. As an adult, it was fun to be involved too!

Triceratops has always been my favorite! This exhibit made it so that this dinosaur was actually breathing. So cool!

In addition to the scenes, the exhibit also had a Dino Dig for fossils, movies, face painting and mini golf.  They even had a giant playground with a huge slide. I wish I was at an age where it was appropriate for me to rent one of these suckers for a birthday party.

After our visit I have a big desire to watch all of the Jurassic Park movies. 😉

So, it wasn’t exactly a museum, but it was something fun and different to do!

I’m working on marking off a few more, but I can predict that I will be giving money to the Humane Society. Eh. There is always 33 While 33 to make up for it!

For those of you with a X While X list, how are you doing?! Are you marking things off your list?!
