A Photo A Day

Fancy Schmancy!

by agirlandhermutt on February 7, 2011

For the past few weekends The Scientist and I have been fancy eating it all around town. We have had a lot to celebrate (work, birthdays, its Friday, etc). It was finally time to take a step back and EAT AT HOME.

Since we were both used to a particular level of fancy schmancyness (real word…look it up!), I decided to amp up my regular dinahs.

First up…Casablanca Cocktail! This drink is just a few ingredients that (almost) anyone can enjoy.

Start with a sugar cube.

Add in a dash or two of bitters…

Top with some super cold sparkling wine.

Make sure you don’t stir or mix it together. Just let it fizzle up!

I felt all classy and fancy sipping on my drink. You know, wearing my pj pants and tank top.

Then dinner…did you forget about the food? Don’t worry, I did a little bit too when I started sipping on the Casablanca Cocktail.

Dorry mentioned making Hasselback potatoes the other day and I had an instant craving. Paired with maple-pecan crusted salmon and some green beans…it was done and DONE.

I’m happy to report that this hit the spot for fanciness at home. Noting better than some solid home cooking.

Have a great day kids!

PS. Over the weekend I also celebrated my friend Jess’s birthday! You can’t find a more giving and caring friend than Jess. She is a great mom, wife, friend, co-worker and I’m so glad that we were able to meet each other through work so that we could be buddies in real life. Plus, I always get a good ab workout when I’m around her from laughing so hard.  Thanks for letting me enjoy some of the sushi boat! Happy Birthday Jess! Smile

Easy Delishness…

by agirlandhermutt on February 2, 2011

Lets be honest…some days it isn’t easy to make a meal from scratch. As a “food blogger” I could try to claim that I make every single meal or snack from fresh ingredients  and pretend that every meal is an all around healthy plate. BUT! If you know me, you know that is not quite true. This girl is busy. And a busy girl needs busy foods. Here are a few of my faves…

1. Stick Fingers Lemon Poppyseed Scones!

Scones are one of my fave things to snack on when I’m home visiting my parents. When I went to visit for Christmas we ran out of time to make the little delish bites. They were kind enough to send me these for me to make them on my own! They also included my favorite curd.

Don’t you have the urge to take your finger and dip it right into the jar? No? Just me? Eh. Whatevs.

The great thing about this Sticky Fingers mix is that it is just add water and bake. How easy peasy is that?!

I used my ice cream scoop to plop a little-bit-bigger-than-a-tablespoon sized dough ball into my flexi cupcake pan.

And we end up with delish just a few (10 to be exact) minutes later!

Add a little curd (which makes me start singing Little Miss Muffet).

Starbucks scones ain’t got nothin’ on these!

There are times when homemade goods are what the occasion calls for and then there are times when a just add water treat is just as good. Winking smile

My other super easy dish comes around dessert time.

2. Skinny Cow Sundaes

+ a little whip cream and slivered almonds

A+++

This food blogger is keepin’ it real. Not everything comes homemade. However, everything is DELISH!

I hope you guys are enjoying the week. If you don’t hear from me in a few days, send a snow plow. Winking smile

What is your favorite easy snack?

I have a weakness for Pop Chips and pita chips. I can’t have those suckers in my house or they are GONE.

Project Happy Apartment!

by agirlandhermutt on February 1, 2011

I’m doing everything I can to keep my head above the snow. It’s a little bit difficult today seeing as how we are getting 20 inches more today. Whatevs.

Rather than dwell…lets take a look at some of the little things in my apartment that are making me happy.

Despite my love for all things Christmas I realized that the Christmas nook could not stay as is for the whole year. I haven’t exactly decided what I want to do with this corner of my living room so for now it houses a small desk and this newest accessory.

My cute little Martha Stewart Christmas tree came down and was replaced by this twig arrangement by Bethleham Lights. My mom surprised me with it to help cheer me up during the winter!

While you can tell that the flowers are fake from close-up, they look pretty real  from even just a short distance away. I love it! They have a variety of colors available, but I’m so glad I went for the red color.

My next step in Project Happy Apartment was in another corner of the living room. I’ve been struggling with buying adult furniture and getting rid of my college-like items. I always figure, if it works why change it. This is what I end up with.

Not exactly the mature look I was going for with the 100% IKEA set up. Winking smile

Hello tons of remote controls!

Oh, and did you see the best part of my set up? My coaster. Yep. Lindsay Lohan’s mugshot is my coaster. What?! I have a strange sense of humor.

My final change was up in the bathroom. My bathroom is TINY. Oh the joys of city apartment living. When I moved to my place I brought along the shower curtain. It was cute. It was girlie. I already had it.

Alas, I am almost 31 years old. It was time to retire the puff ball shower curtain.

Dig the birds? They seem to be a theme in my house. Check out the living room decal.

In addition to these minor little changes, I am adding some fun touches around the house. Including this funky flower vase my parents sent me.

Just add a touch of color and DONE!

And last, but certainly not least, is a project that I have still in the works. I ordered a few 5×7 prints of a few of my photos that I have taken over the year. I want to frame them for the kitchen. One of these is not like the other though.

Vertical destroyer of the horizontal family!

I removed this bad boy from the bunch and I realized that I have a nice photo collection of the four seasons. These will be appearing on my wall soon. WOOT!

Le sigh…I’m feeling so much better with all the happy touches in the house. I’m no Young House Love, but I do make myself happy. The Scientist is digging the changes. The mutt seems content. All is right with the AGAHM world.

You know…except the snow. Blah.
