Avon Walk

Let the Games Begin!!!

by agirlandhermutt on May 14, 2010

Starting tomorrow at 6am, my Dad and I will be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. For 2 days and 39 miles we will walk as one to bring attention to a disease that affects millions of us. Over the course of the weekend, Team M&M, will be tweeting and keeping you up to date on the walk. Keep your fingers crossed for great weather, good times, and no blisters. 😉 Oh, and if you see a walker or two, be sure to wave and offer your support!

After 5 months of training, the time has come!

See ya on Sunday kids!!!

Ode to my sneaks…

by agirlandhermutt on May 7, 2010

I’ve spoken before about my sneaks. Because of the Avon Walk I pay more attention now to what goes on my feet than I ever did before. I’ve always bought sneakers that were popular from Nike, New Balance or Adidas. Just as long as they were cute!

When I finally decided to get some sneaks to really put some miles on I went out and got my foot/walk looked at. On my trip to Marathon Sports I learned that I have over pronation, which is basically flat foot. Over pronation causes the foot to turn outward at the ankle, causing sufferers to walk along the inner portion of the foot.

The resolution is easy though. An orthotic insert or in my case, a pair of sneakers that have a larger sole on the inside portion on the inside of the shoe. The Brooks Addiction shoes are lightweight, absorb shock and help to stabalize the foot pretty well. I instantly feel the difference when I started moving around in these shoes!

My first pair of Brooks. Nice and broken in!

My new pair. Almost broken in and ready for the marathon and a half!

I love the new pair EXCEPT they have this flower thing on the side that I totally missed seeing when I ordered them from Zappos.com. Flower Power!

Look! They aren’t jealous of each other. I love both of them equally.

Both of these babies will accompanying me to my event next weekend. I’m stoked!

Good shoes=Good feet!

Question of the day: What kind of sneakers do you wear? Have you ever been fitted?

Endurance=DONE! (Day 120)…

by agirlandhermutt on May 1, 2010

Today was my final endurance training walk before the big Avon Walk weekend! I was on the books for 20 miles and the weather was ready for me.

I started in Washington Square in Brookline, walked all the way down Beacon St to the edge of the Boston Common.

Walked through Downtown Crossing and across a bridge to South Boston. From there I walked along the harbor until I got to JFK Library at U Mass. 12 miles down! I met up with my friend Kyle, who graciously volunteered to walk the last 8 miles or so I needed to get in for the day.

Hello Kyle!

It was a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG walk. It was great to catch up with Kyle and have someone to talk to near the end. I’m telling you…5+ hours on your feet is rough! I didn’t really think the whole walking all the way to South Boston but how do I get home situation through so The Scientist was kind enough to come pick me up. I could have easily taken the T any other day but I was T-I-R-E-D!

Green Monster to the rescue!

I sucked this baby down faster than you could even imagine! After today’s feat I’ve decided to just relax and make the best of my evening. When I say make the best of my evening I really mean sleep. 😉
