Monthly Faves: April 2013

by agirlandhermutt on May 1, 2013

I know they say April showers bring May flowers, but what does freezing cold temps do? I’m happy to report that despite a rocky start to the month, we ended April with spring-like weather and I’m ready to dive head first into a new month.

But first…

This month I definitely got into a routine with my make-up. I was enjoying a nice tan thanks to my Caribbean vacation at the end of March so less make-up for me was the way to go. I also finally found a few fitness items that are officially must-haves for me.

1. Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara– This was in last month’s favorites and it still is my go to mascara. It doesn’t run. It doesn’t clump. It lasts all day. Perfect!

2. Reebok Warm 1/4 Zip Long Sleeve Top– I bought this one at a Reebok outlet for just $15 and I’m in love with it. It is light, airy, and perfect for those cooler mornings/evenings. Bonus thumb holes too! I love the neon orange accents the most though. I found this one that is similar on the Reebok site.

Bonus Favorite: Old Navy Compression Capri Pants. These suckers can hold odors like no other workout pant, but they are SO comfortable. Plus, my butt looks good all sucked in and put in place in these pants. This is my first experience with compression items and I predict it won’t be my last.

3. Polar Heart Rate Monitor FT4- I bought this hrm shortly after returning from my cruise and I have fallen in love with it. I love the instant feedback and being able to track my workouts. I can physically see myself getting better and working harder each workout.

4. All Things Nautical– I’m obsessed with anchors, stripes, and all things red, white & blue. I love the classic look and the color combo so much! I’ve even dedicated a Pinterest board to my fave style.

5. St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub– This product has been around forever and people have been raving about it for years. I just got on the wagon. My usual scrub was out of stock one day so I picked this up. It  is definitely a little more coarse than I am used to, but it is perfect for those days I feel super grimy. A little goes a long way too! My skin is left feeling clean, refreshed and all scrubbed up.

6. NYC Sun n’ Bronze in Hamptons Radiance– My minimal make-up look for the month has included concealer, blush and  this bronzer. The middle strips are perfect for contouring and adding some color to my face. The outer strips of pinkish-brown are great for adding a bit of “I was just out in the sun” look to a fading tan. Plus, this stuff is cheap! You can get it for less than $5 at your drugstore.

7. Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum– I have no idea if this is really causing my lashes to grown, but it is making them SEEM longer. This is like a clear mascara that I put on at night. When I wake up and put my regular mascara on I can barely tell that the clear kind is there, but I can tell that my eyelashes are about 50% longer and fuller. It doesn’t dry my lashes out and doesn’t bother my eyes at all either. I have tiny little eyes that disappear when I laugh so I need all the length and fullness I can get out of my eyelashes!

Everyone having a good week? I’m starting off one of my first 30 Day challenges for my 33 While 33 list and I’m trying to do a No Spend May. I will fill you in on my rules for myself tomorrow!

In the meantime, let me know if you have any experience with compression socks. I’m thinking of trying them out.

See ya tomorrow!

I ♥ Spring Tag!

by agirlandhermutt on April 26, 2013

I think Spring is officially here and I am ready to welcome it in with open arms. I could do without the pollen and allergies, but I’ll save my complaining for another day.

During a stroll through Back Bay yesterday (free parking to encourage folks to come into town!) I ran into Copley Square. One of my favorite signs that Spring is here is that tulips are planted throughout the city. I couldn’t help but think it was fitting to have such lovely flowers directly next to the beautiful memorial space that has been set up for the victims of the marathon bombing.

I walked around the city for the afternoon and enjoyed the sunshine. It was a relaxing way to say hello to Spring and say hello to the outdoors.

Speaking of the season changing, I saw this tag on YouTube and decided to bring it to the blog.

I ♥  Spring Tag!

1. Favorite spring nail polish?
Essie Where’s My Chaffeur?– This is an amazing tealish color. Love this! I paired this last week with Essie’s Trophy Wife.

2. What is your must-have lip color this spring?
Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick in Cherry On Top. I love all the bright colors that have been showing up on shelves this season, but I can’t exactly rock neon pink lipstick at work without looking like some type of hooker. Fortunately this Cherry on Top is the perfect fuchsia that is fun without being overwhelming. Slight sheer, shiny, and feels oh so smooth.

3. Show us your favorite spring dress!
You saw this in my last post. I WILL wear this dress this Spring. YES!

4. What’s your favorite flower?
My ultimate favorite flower is the peony. It just makes me happy! But for Spring, you can never go wrong with a tulip. Plus, my Mom loves them so I feel all kinds of connected to her when I see them. Mother Nature will do that to ya.

PS. Those tulips are from a few years ago in Central Park. Perfection!

5. Favorite spring scarf/accessory?
I love a good scarf. This mint green and peach polka dot scarf from Target is where it is at this season.

6. What spring trend(s) are you most excited about this year?

Bold stripes seem to be in this year. Or so it seems. I’m on board with this! I’m not good with what is trendy. I end up liking trends but not really figuring them out until several seasons later.

7. Favorite spring candle?
I don’t burn candles but I do simmer my Scentsy! My favorite Spring scent is definitely Scentsy Cherry Limeade. It reminds me of a Sonic slushie thing. “Zesty key lime, sweet cherry, and juicy berry: a delicious scent reminiscent of a soda fountain drink.”

8. Favorite body spray/perfume for spring?
I don’t switch up my smells too much, but right now I am loving The Body Shop’s Pink Grapefruit body spray. My usual spray is the Strawberry version, but the citrus in this just makes me giddy.

9. What is spring like where you live?

10. What’s your favorite thing about spring?
The snow melts, the sun shines for longer during the day and the flowers bloom. Korky loves to play outside too!

11. Are you a spring cleaner?
I’m not really a cleaner in general. 😉 I typically outsource this job. Wanna come over and help a girl out?!
12. Any plans for spring break or an upcoming vacation?
I don’t do Spring Break, but I love a good vacation. I have a few trips planned, including a little weekend getaway that starts….NOW!

See ya Monday!

What is your favorite flower? Do you still do Spring Break?

Monthly Faves: March 2013

by agirlandhermutt on April 4, 2013

Hello friends! March just flew by and I am officially gearing up for Spring. Boston needs to get with it so I can enjoy some Spring-like weather. I need sun. I need flowers. I need not to wear my winter coat!

I had a few great finds throughout March and wanted to share the items I just couldn’t put down.

1. L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe and Iced Latte. Bronzed Taupe is the perfect eyeshadow to create a one color look. It goes on smooth, blends out to a beautiful color and lasts all day. The Iced Latte color is a great brow bone highlighter but is perfect to wear alone too. I used Iced Latte alone on my cruise and it looked great with my tan!

2. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Sugar Plum. I love, love, love this color. I’ve had it in my big ol’ lipstick bag for several months but I rediscovered it this month. It is a beautiful shade of pink. Not too bright, not too heavy and a great color with any outfit.

3. Crocs Kadee in Leopard. Go ahead and make fun of me that I wear Crocs, but I won’t give them up. These shoes are so cute and so comfortable! I wore them a ton on my cruise and never had shoe issues. I consider leopard to be a neutral. It goes with everything! 😉

4. L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Conditioner. I bought both the shampoo and conditioner, but the conditioner is a stand out. If you have ever colored your hair at home then you are familiar with the conditioner that comes with the boxed dye set. It makes your hair so soft and smooth. This conditioner has that exact same effect! I adore this conditioner and what it does for my hair.

5. ReNew Life’s Ultimate Flora Probiotic. A few weeks ago ReNew offered to send me a few samples of their high potency probiotics. I decided to try the Women’s Care type. I have a *few* stomach issues on occasions and probiotics have been helpful in the past. Ultimate Flora probiotics are meant to replenish good bacteria in the digestive tract, restore regularity and promote immune health. Just a little TMI, but these suckers get the job done with that whole restoring regularity. 😉 These can be found at almost any drugstores, supermarkets and places like CVS and Walgreens.

Check out the video for more info…

6. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow in Tough As Taupe. These eyeshadows are creamy and super pigmented. I use this particular shade as my eyeshadow base. It will last all day long with no creasing and is perfect under the Iced Latte I mentioned above or even all by itself.

7. CoverGirl LastBlast Crump Crusher Mascara. When I first tried this mascara I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a winner. After a few uses I realized that this mascara works best when I do just one or two coats and leave it alone. There is volume and the perfect amount of length given for everyday wear. This is possibly one of the best waterproof mascaras for me too. I have a huge problem with mascara bleeding and haven’t had a problem with this one at all. Even when I was sweating my booty off in Haiti.

I’m trying to cut back on the product buying for the month of April and use up what I have. This may or may not be successful. 😉 I am a serious sucker for new products! If it says “NEW!” then I am all over it. Is anyone else like this?!

See ya next time with my cruise recap!
