39 Years…

I totally forgot to mention a big event from this past Friday, January 6th. Don’t worry, I sent a card and called. Phew. I would have been in trouble if I forgot that!

My parents celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary.

39!

Wow…just wow.

Thanks to Mom & Dad for setting an example for a successful marriage and also improving your clothing choices since 1973. Kidding…kind of.

Happy Anniversary to the most wonderful parents a girl could ask for!

Up, Up, Up In the Air!

Ready.

Set.

GO!

We went parasailing! My Dad turned 60 so we risked his life by throwing him up in the air about 800ft. My Mom is a smart cookie and lets us do this dummy move on our own. No, no…I kid. We had a GREAT time!

Especially when we were dragged through the water for a few minutes. I *might* have swallowed about 1/3 of the Gulf of Mexico.

The boat ride was a little rough so by the time it was time to get loaded up to go sailing I was feeling a little sick. It may look nice and calm but those boat captains were kicking up some serious waves!

Once you are up in the air it is so smooth and it was great to look around the area. Totally a fun time! Oh, and yes I’m aware that my legs glow from being so white. You can just call me Edward Cullen. Winking smile

After parasailing we went to the traditional lunch spot, The Back Porch. I absolutely love this place. It is right on the beach and the food is perfect for that atmosphere.

We started with some oysters and smoked tuna dip. That tuna dip is what sweet dreams are made of.

I branched out from my usual shrimp po’ boy and got a blacked amberjack sandwich. SUCH A GOOD CHOICE! The Scientist let me nibble a shrimp off his po’ boy though. So nice.

It was a little overcast the whole day but it actually made for a great beach visit. It wasn’t too hot and we were able to really enjoy the view.

The rest of the weekend was dedicated to spending quality time with my parents and relaxing. We went to see Captain America (pretty good!) and ate some great food.

My Dad also busted out his magical bartending skills.

Don’t worry. I’ll be sharing some drink recipes soon. These are too good to NOT to let everyone in on!

We also loved on my parents pups, Butch & Spike. These little mutt, or “my brothes” as my Mom refers to them, are pretty smart and full of personality. If they want you to pay attention to them, you WILL pay attention.

I’m so glad I was able to be there to celebrate with my Dad and Mom. Just a few more months until we are reunited again for our next adventure!

Birthday Celebration!

Hello from Pensacola! I’m happy to report that The Scientist and I are enjoying every minute of Florida. Yes, it is a bit hot.Yes, Tropical Depression Katia is coming right up on us. However, we are having a wonderful time celebrating my Dad’s 60th birthday.

We started the day with an excellent breakfast. I’d love to say that I woke up bright and early to cook a fantastic meal up, but my Dad is the chef in the house so he made his own meal. The Scientist was horrified until he had a few bites of breakfast. He got it then.

Breakfast was a mixture of soy sausage, grits, tomato & feta quiche, boiled shrimp, and fruit salad.

Mmm…shrimp n’ grits! You can take the girl out of the South but you can NEVER take the South out of the girl.

We spent the birthday day tooling around Pensacola checking out snorkeling gear and having a good time. Our final stop was a place my Mom found, Pensacola Bay Brewery.

This brewery is new to the area, just opened in 2010, but already seemed to be the popular place. We were there on Thursday afternoon around 2 and people were coming in left and right.

As we walked in we were greeted by Mimi, the brewery pup. Mimi was quite possibly the cutest puppy around (outside of Kork). My heart melts when I look at her photo. EEK. I need a Mimi in my life.

We finally got to the tasting. The brewery had 6 beers on tap that were made in house.

We each got a sampler and went to town.

My Dad had his own very favorite beer…root beer!

Taste, taste, taste.

The beer winner of the day: Lil’ Napolean IPA! If you are in the area you should definitely stop by Pensacola Bay Brewery. The guys here are really nice and the beers were well made. I was totally impressed with the quality.

My Dad picked one of his favorite restaurants, The Grand Marlin, for dinner and we ALL were happy to oblige. Remember we have been there before?! Always a winner.

Starter: Blue Angel Chips- house made chips with blue cheese dressing. Holy yum. So delish!

Drinks: A classic Bushwacker!-

White rum, coffee liqueur, cream de cocoa, vanilla ice cream, 151 rum float

Dinnah: Horseradish-Crusted Grouper

The birthday boy seemed to have a great day. Mission accomplished!

I downloaded the Angry Birds app for my parents so I’m spending the rest of the evening teaching them how to play. There is never a dull moment in this house! Winking smile
