Happy Birthday Dad!

by agirlandhermutt on September 1, 2011

I’m officially in Florida spending time celebrating the best guy I know…My Dad!

Happy Birthday 60th Birthday Old Man! Winking smile

I hope you have another year of health, happiness and lots of family visits! I threw that last one in there as a purely selfish wish on my part.

Saying Good-Bye…

by agirlandhermutt on April 27, 2011

On Tuesday, April 26th, my Grandma passed away. My Mom was with her as she passed and I take comfort in knowing that she is now hand-in-hand with my Pap-Pap.

Although I wasn’t one of those kids that was able to spend every single Sunday dinner with my grandparents, I did have my own special relationship with them. I have fond memories of visiting Pittsburgh during the summer and being treated to Bingo games, bowling, and visiting the hair salon with my Grandma. Christmas trips are sprinkled with memories of her food. I can still taste her bbq and hot sausages that she made with a finesse that can’t ever be replicated. I can still picture the jelly glasses that we drank juice out of for breakfast along with the other half of my Pap-Pap’s banana.

My Pap-Pap passed away in 2008. My Grandma is with him now and I know they will continue to look over me as not only my grandparents, but also my Godparents.

Should I ever need a reminder of what a wonderful woman my Grandma was, I need to look no further than my Mom. In addition to sharing those great looks (I’ve been told I’m a spitting image of my Mom Winking smile ), they also share common traits of being caring, loving and incredibly strong.

I am glad that I was able to spend time with Grandma as we both grew older. Life and people change, but the love for spending time with my grandparents never did.

Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes.  A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.  And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.  ~Richard Bach

I am heading to Pittsburgh for the weekend to say my good-byes and be with my family. Take some time to tell those that mean so much to you that you love them. See you on Monday.

He has left the building…

by agirlandhermutt on April 25, 2011

My Dad came and in what seems like a blink of the eye, he is gone. I enjoyed every single minute of his visit and I missed him before I even dropped him off at the airport.

We ate, drank, and laughed our way around Boston.

We made a poorly planned day trip to Portland, Maine too. FYI…the weather in Maine is not so great in April. Thank goodness for some good attitudes and clam chowdah.

We had a festive and spicy Easter. Mexican food and chocolate!

I was excited that flowers were out in full force for his visit. Who doesn’t love a pretty flower?!

Each time my Dad comes to visit we do something fun and a little exciting. One time it was ziplining, another time it was snow mobiling. This time it was indoor skydiving at SkyVenture in NH. We weren’t able to take photos in the big ol’ wind tunnel, but you have to take my word for it that it was CRAZY. Super crazy fun! The only bad side of it…my face during the skydiving. I once had a friend of mine get mad at me because she told me that I was “too photogenic”. Uh…yea. Its because I only SHOW the GOOD photos. This is the moment where I break that image. Be prepared to be scared. And scarred. Scared and Scarred.

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?! What is going on with my face?! Unfortunately this is probably one of the best photos of me from the day. Yep. The best. Then there is my Dad.

*Insert Sarcasm* Isn’t that nice. My Dad is like a crane in the wild. That beard is hiding something. I’m convinced. Winking smile

Despite the awful photo, we had a fantastic time! I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. Supah fun.

My parents and I live entirely too far away from each other. I miss my Mom and Dad every single day. The trips to Boston or Pensacola, although not frequent enough, make life that much better!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! I’m doing my best to get back into the swing of things. Those few days off from work are tough to recover from.  I’ll see you on Wednesday!
