Favorite Fall Crock Pot Recipes

by agirlandhermutt on October 16, 2015

There is something magical and wonderful about the crock pot. I didn’t really discover this little tool until I was in my late 20s. I think my Mom probably had some weird phobia about leaving it plugged in all day and randomly burning down the house so we never really did slow cooker meals. I live life on the edge though! Once I discovered crock pot liners, my crock pot love got out of control. Crock pot liners=Less clean up!

As the leaves start to change colors and the heater starts to hint at being turned on, I get in the mood for all things comfort food related. Here are a few of my favorite fall dishes…

My number one dish for Fall is from SkinnyTaste. This recipe is a favorite in my house and in several of my friend’s houses too!

Crock Pot Turkey White Bean Pumpkin Chili

(Can you say that 5 times fast?!) I know I said I don’t really like anything pumpkin flavored but this is an exception. And pie. Don’t forget the pie. It doesn’t have a huge pumpkin punch, but the pumpkin gives the chili a really nice smooth finish. MMmmmm…. BUT! I do NOT use the bay leaves that are in this recipe. Nope. No way. No how. Those things almost killed me!

Slow Cooker Kalua Pig
My friend, Karen, introduced me to this recipe. She served it one night over a simple green salad and topped it with some easy guacamole for dressing. Ughhh. I could have eaten the whole thing! Honestly, I’ve never tried the special salt in the recipe and it still tastes wonderful.

PS. If you haven’t checked out Nomnompaelo’s recipes, you must! Even if you aren’t paleo, it is a great resource for some yummy eats.

Crock Pot Santa Fe Chicken
Yet another SkinnyTaste recipe. This one is so easy that there is no way you can screw this up. I should note that I leave out the cilantro. That crap is disgusting. It tastes like soap. I love to eat this straight up, over lime flavored rice or my favorite, cauliflower rice.

Crock Pot Italian Turkey Meatballs
Last SkinnyTaste recipe. I swear! This one is so good and so easy! She recommends making your sauce. Good on ya if you do. I just use whatever my favorite jarred sauce is at that moment in time. I made these last year for a Super Bowl party and there were gone before halftime.

Crockpot Applesauce
Apple picking is super popular in New England. I go almost every fall. I used to just go, pick apples and then leave them in the bag to rot till I remember to throw them out. 😉 However! Since I discovered this applesauce recipe I just throw them all together for this purpose. Sooooo good.

Ham & Cheese Party Rolls
These aren’t a crock pot recipe, but they are just so warm and yummy that I had to include them in this goodie list. The ham combined with the glaze is just warm and lovely. Plus these sucker could not be easier to make. I recently made them for a little gathering at my house and they were the first things to disappear! Goals & Fall Faves

by agirlandhermutt on October 12, 2015

Hello there! Despite having to use a cane to hobble around, I had a fantastic fall weekend. The perfect hoodie wearing, camp fire having, brunch enjoying weekend.

Fall is definitely my favorite time of year and believe it or not, it is not even because of pumpkin flavored everything. I actually don’t even really like anything pumpkin, except pie. Blasphemy! Fall just works for me. I’m cuter and in a better mood. Maybe it is because I’m not sweating likea pig?!

Since I had just had my surgery and was feeling a little ambitious, I made a few goals for October to kick off my favorite season. I’m *really* trying to keep my eating in check since I can’t exercise like I normally would. I had a nightmare where I saw myself blowing up pretty easily and I worked too dang hard to have that happen.  Enter goals. I’ll probably do goals for the remainder of the year too!

These goals are pretty self explanatory. By “Get back in saddle” I mean be back in a spinning class by the end of the month. EEK! I told my surgeon and physical therapist and they all think it is totally possible. Well, my PT thinks I might be a little nuts, but I’m cool with that.  I won’t be able to do everything (jumps, riding while standing up, etc), but I can participate and be back in the thick of things. I’m not a huge fan of jumps to begin with so this is just fine with me. I just miss the whole group exercise atmosphere!  I need my knee to be able to bend at 110 degrees to ride a bike. I was at around 95 degrees at my last PT appointment. I’ve got to keep WORKING!

With goals out of the way, I want to talk about some fun things.  Some of my fall favorites for beauty and fashion, a few of my favorite fall recipes (Hello crockpot!) and a few things I love about fitness during the best time of year.

We are starting off with my overall favorites with this Fall Favorites tag that I stole off YouTube from one of my guilty pleasure beauty gurus, Jaclyn Hill.

Favorite Candle
I’ve said it before and I will say it again…I don’t do candles. I’m deathly afraid of my house burning down! I’m a HUGE fan of simmer pots though. My favorite scent this year (and last year!) is Apple Press from Scentsy. It reminds me of apple picking, baking and all things outdoors.

Favorite Lip Color
I’m obsessed with a dark red lip! I mentioned last week in my Currently post that I’ve really been into liquid lipsticks. The color Unicorn Blood from Jeffree Star is just EVERYTHING.

Favorite Drink
There is something magical about mulled wine. Not only does it smell delicious but it just tastes so yummy and warms up every part of my body. There is a place in Harvard Square called Grendel’s Den that has THE BEST mulled wine in the world.

Favorite Blush

Sticking with the wine theme, I love IT Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Flush in Magical in Mauve. It is a gorgeous plummy color that is super pigmented and lovely on my super white girl skin.

Favorite Clothing Item
There was a serious struggle between scarfs and vests, but love definitely leans towards vests this year. Puffy, military style, drapey…I don’t care! I love them all!

Note: I realized when I was looking for vest photos that I am *really* attached to this cream colored holey sweater. I might need to retire it soon!

Favorite Fall Movie
Harry Potter! I don’t care what movie from the series, I love the ALL!

Favorite Fall TV Show
Right now I living for Bob’s Burgers and How to Get Away With Murder!

Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Mashed potatoes! I could eat a whole meal of just potatoes for Thanksgiving. And don’t try to ruin it my potatoes with gravy. No thank you!

 Favorite Halloween Costume
Unfortunately, I played the role of Beer Fairy for about 5 years too many. What would have probably been my favorite costume is now just a fun memory. I desperately wish I had the talent for special fx make up so I will show you two YouTubers that have all the talent that I could only dream of having!

Glam & Gore

See ya on Wednesday with some of my favorite fall meals! Answer one of the favorites above or answer the questions on your blog and let me know!

Friday Faves: Etsy Shops

by agirlandhermutt on August 14, 2015

I’m addicted to Etsy. I know I’m not alone.

Seriously. It used to be that everything in my house came from IKEA. Now it looks like the Etsy website blew up in my living room. I can’t get enough of people’s homemade goods.

I happen to know that many of you fine folks also enjoy a good Etsy find so I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite stores right now. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (you should!), then you know that I a am addicted to sticker stores.

*Because I have tons to talk about regarding the whole planner world, including stickers, I’m going to be doing a planner week next week. A review of my Erin Condren and Day Designer planners, a run down of the sticker shops I have bought from (both good AND bad!), and a bit about planning resources. Today I wanted to just focus on cool shops with great owners!*

Burlap Blooms
I love a good door wreath. There is something fun about coming up to someone’s door and instantly getting a vibe of what their home is going to be about. Our beach wedding had touches of burlap to give it that whole chic boho vibe. I loved it. I found this store specializing in burlap wreaths but none were the *exact* color scheme I was looking for. I sent a quick email asking if she could do some custom colors and a few emails later I had a wreath on its way to me. Literally. I ordered Monday morning and by Monday afternoon I had a shipping notification. It arrived on Wednesday afternoon.

The wreath was well made and arrived with no issues. Great packaging for shipping!

The Paper Chick
Next up is a shop that is owned by a childhood friend of mine. I’m a pouch person. I have little bags for everything. Ashley, better known as The Paper Chick, was showing her bags on Facebook and I had to have a few. I ordered the two bags shown below and was blown away by the quality of the fabric, zipper and workmanship. I ended up purchasing 3 more from her recently as gifts. I should note, I bought every single one of my bags. No freebies to get mentioned. Just pure love for her craft from me!

Blue Green Blue Design
I LOVE personalized items. Not necessarily monograms, but things that are customized to be just for you. While I was searching around for a unique wedding gift I came across the Blue Green Blue Designs shop. I love her graphic prints and decided to give her a try.

I bought a print that included the coordinates of where the couple got married. I emailed the specifics to her, but let her know that the only part that I wasn’t sure about was the color choices. Kaitlyn emailed me back quickly with a proof that included some great options, but also asked that I send her a photo from the wedding day. I did and she responded again with an even cooler design that made the print so personal to the couple I was getting the gift for. It was so easy to communicate with her!

It shipped the next day and when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find it in a reinforced envelope (no bending!) and the print quality was excellent. A few days later I ended up ordering from her again for my own personal print! I would show you those, but they are coordinates to my house. Uh no. So here are some examples. And this is exactly how great mine look in person! Seriously. I can’t tell you how much I love my prints. il_570xN.537190229_k4c0
Happy Fox Design
This shop is a printable art store. I have to tell you…I’m not typically a huge fan of printables. I never really understand how to get them printed and it seems like such a hassle. However, I had been on the hunt for a specific octopus print and wasn’t able to find EXACTLY what I was looking for until I came across Happy Fox Design. The only problem was the art was all printables. It was only $10 to purchase the 3 part art piece so I figured I would give it a shot.

I was surprised to find that the prints downloaded easily from Etsy and then I just uploaded them to Snapfish and had them printed on matte paper. The result?! Really high quality prints that cost me about $12 total! I’ve since tried to do this with a few other shops and haven’t had as much success. Most of the times the colors are off from what was on my screen or the quality isn’t nearly as nice (pixelated) when I print them out. This shop has a variety of pieces at resonable prices.

The Mod Mobile
Every cute car deserves cute accessories. The Mod Mobile offers accessories for mobile living including car trash cans, on-the-go lids and tissue holders. I got this cute matching trash can and tissue holder set. The trash can has a plastic interior that holds a dog poo sized plastic bag perfectly. They even sent a roll of bags with the trash can! I also got the matching tissues holder that just slides right onto the visor. Super convenient!

UntitledLemon Drops & Lilacs
Super cute customized cards! All of my wedding thank you cards came from here and I just loved them. Hand stamped and adorable. These cards obviously run a little more than picking up a pack of cards at Target, but the quality of both the card and the stamping make it worth the few extra bucks for those special occasions that you actually send a real card.

Let me know if you have any shop recommendations or if you even have a shop of your own!
