Fave Five Friday: Lipstick and Lip Gloss Edition

by agirlandhermutt on April 6, 2012

Although I’ve decided to reign in the focus on the blog I’m not giving up my Fave Five Friday. I have things that I love and I want to share! I hope you don’t mind. ;)

True story time…Back when I was in college I entered a contest at a make-up counter in the mall for “Best Lips of Tallahassee”. All I had to do was to put some lipstick on, kiss this board, and then people voted on who had the best puckers. I won. Two years in a row. Woot! If I could put it on my resume, I totally would.

My love affair with lip glosses and lipsticks started around that time. I realized that I could instantly brighten up my face, change the whole vibe of my look, and have to do very little makeup to look put together.

I typically wear lip gloss all by itself, but I also have some favorite lipstick/lip gloss combos. Almost all of these are drugstore brands on purpose so that anyone can pick these up or find them in a local store.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick (Soft Nude) ~$7
with Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gloss (Shiny Natural Look) $14

+

= A nice pinkish nude color combo. Revlon ColorBurst lipstick is great on its own. Not only is it creamy is it long lasting with tons of pigmentation, but its also really creamy feeling. The addition of the Sephora lip gloss just gives a bit of shine without any sticky feeling. Mentioned this one before.

Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick (Peach) ~$7
with Revlon ColorBurst Liplogss (Sunset Peach) ~$7

 +
= The color combo of the summer. Peach and coral are everywhere for the season and I’m loving it. I think people tend to shy away from the peach colors because they immediately think they are going to look too orange. Totally not the case for this lipstick. It has a lovely pink hue undertone and is really flattering. The addition of the lipgloss just adds that pop of gloss that pulls the color all together.

NYC Ultra Moist Lipwear (Sheer Red) $0.99
with  Loreal Infallible 8 Hr Le Gloss (Rebel Red)
 +

=A bold statement. I have big ol’ lips and have a hard time with red lips sometimes. This NYC lipstick is the BEST. It’s the perfect red color without being too purple or pink. The addition of the gloss just adds that touch of shine and I find that the whole look just stays together longer throughout the day.

NYC Ultra Last Lipwear (Snow Cone) $1.99
with NYC Liquid Lipshine Prospect Pink $2.50

+

=Barbie overload. I was a little nervous when I first picked up this frosty pink color, but it was just too cute. The pink has a nice shine without looking like you are wearing your Hello Kitty lipstick from middle school. This gloss is just simply to create that glossy look. I wear this lipstick and gloss separately often, but together they are the perfect pair.

Mary Kay Crème Lipstick (Sunlit Sands) $13
with MaryKay Nourishine Lip Gloss (Beach Bronze) $14
 +

= The ultimate combo for all you tan lovelies. When I’m a bit tanner and want a natural look I throw this combo on. The first nude combo I showed is a bit too white looking when I’m tanner so this is my back-up colors. For those of you who are not as ghostly white as I am on a regular basis then this could be a regular neautral combo. I don’t wear the lipstick on its own much because it feels a little dry for me, but the gloss is great on its own. It isn’t sticky and lasts for several hours. I’m looking forward to breaking out these colors soon!

I hope you guys are wrapping up your week and ready for the weekend. I don’t have much on the agenda and I couldn’t be more excited about that. A little pilates and an Easter celebration. Doesn’t that sound lovely?!

See ya Monday and don’t forget that you have some time to enter my Fishs Eddy NYC giveaway!

Fave Five Friday: February Favorites Edition!

by agirlandhermutt on March 9, 2012

Hi friends! It feels like Spring in Boston! I want to run around in flip flops and open the sunroof on my car. Alas, it is still a bit too chilly for that, but we are on the verge of something good here.

I love to do my Fave Five Friday, but this time I thought I would do a round-up of my favorite things from the month of February. All of these things are items that I used almost every day or at least a few days a week throughout February. I get stuck on things and become addicted for short periods of time. I think it is some weird form of OCD. Are any of you like this?!

Fave Five Friday: February Favorites Edition (+ a Bonus Item!)

1. Hair extensions

I know I promised a post all about these, but I have done one  better. I filmed a little video! I hope to have it up next week. :) I am absolutely loving the extensions and I am so glad I gave them a try. Admittedly, they were a bit creepy at first when I thought about putting someone else’s hair on my head, but once I got them in I was totally overjoyed that all that creepiness went away.

2. Rachel Ray 10-piece Cookware Set

I didn’t even realize how MUCH I needed new cookware until I started using these. Everything cooks much more evenly and they clean up so well! Big thanks to the AGAHM Parents for hookin’ a daughter up.

3. PICKLES!

Whether I’m snacking on my favorite Grillo’s or enjoying some Garlicky Claussen’s, I’ve been loving pickles. This quick, salty snack is perfect for me and the WW program. 4 spears (or 1 whole) is 0 points and gets the job done when I need something to crunch down on after work. I’ve enjoyed pickles in a Pickle Roll-Up, cottage cheese parfait, and a few times fried (sshh…not exactly WW friendly).

4. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.

I’m not sure if I will ever need to buy eye shadow again. Ha. Kidding. Although this palette is everything I hoped it would be AND more. These colors work great for me and my style. They have great pigment and go on so smoooooth. I think I’ve convinced a few people to join in the Urban Decay Naked cult too.

5. Scentsy!

I.am.in.love! I love coming home to my house smelling like birthday cake (Happy Birthday scent) or my bathroom smelling like baby powder (Newborn Nursery). It just makes the house feel happier! The Scientist says that I’m tricking him into believing that I’m actually baking. Uh…not so much. I’ve introduced several of my friends this past month and have them hooked. Have any of you guys tried it out?! If you are interested in a sample smell or a catalog, shoot me an email. I’m happy to send it along!

Bonus item: Because Feb is my birthday month I have a bonus favorite.

My365 iPhone app

A photo-a-day app right on your iPhone! I love it! I always have my phone with me so I just snap away and pick a photo for that day to include in my 365 app calendar. There are filters (think instagram) to use, you can link it to Twitter, and you can check out other people’s photos. So fun!

February was a great month and March is starting out on the right foot. It certainly feels like 2012 is starting off on the right foot!

What was your #1 favorite item in February? Makeup? Food? Smartphone app?

Fave Five Friday: Cruise Edition!

by agirlandhermutt on January 6, 2012

Yesterday I got an email from Orbitz letting me know that all kinds of cruises were on sale. You know, “Escape from the Cold to the Caribbean!”  I almost had the urge to just snatch one up and go. But that isn’t realistic and certainly wouldn’t be the most responsible thing to do….or would it?! Eh. I didn’t do it. What I did do was start daydreaming about the wonderful time I had on my cruise and what made it so great.

Without further ado, and the very first of 2012, it is Fave Five Friday: Cruise Edition!

If you happen to be heading out on a cruise or some other warm weather vacation in the near future hopefully this list might give you some fun/helpful ideas on things to bring with ya.

clip_image00161_thumb1_thumb[1]

1. Coolibar Swim Shirt

I’m a super white girl. I grew up in the South being outside quite often, but my Irish skin finally had enough. I had a little battle with skin cancer (nothing major, but still scary!) and ever since then I’ve been at odds with the sun. I burn easily and it isn’t pretty. Enter the swim shirt. Both my Dad and I got these for the cruise and we LOVED them! Not only do they protect from the sun with a 50+ SPF in them, but they also make that freezing cold water not so bad.

2. Nivea Kiss of Flavor Lip Care

Nivea lip balms are my absolute fave chapsticks. I’ve mentioned the Kiss of Moisture before and my love for it. When I was going on the cruise I knew I wouldn’t be wearing much make-up, but still wanted to have some kind of color for my lips. I picked up the Kiss of Flavor and used that as my primary lip color the whole trip. The slight red sheen that this balm has is perfect for my skin tone and really kept my lips moisturized while looking good.

3. Baggallini Clutch

I’m not typically a solid color bag wearer, but there was something about this Baggallini clutch that held my attention. I think it is because I’m addicted to the color grey right now, but I also loved that it had a nice look with tons of storage. I ended up purchasing this clutch and using the WHOLE cruise. I would pop off the strap to carry around as a clutch at night and then just put the strap back on to use as a crossbody bag during the day. Perfect! I know it isn’t the most interesting bag choice, but it went with everything and held up great with the sand, sun and water.

4. Crocs Adrina Sandles

Ok, stay with me here. Yes, I bought Crocs. But they are so cute and comfy! I wore these almost every day around the ship and in port when we were walking around. The sand washed off them easily and they still looked nice enough to wear them with a skirt at night. I know Crocs aren’t considered the coolest thing in the world, but these were the perfect shoe for a hot day. I’m definitely busting these babies out for the summer!

5. Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips

I’ve talked about these nail polish strips before, but seriously…they are the best! They are so easy to put on and they last forever. The strips aren’t liquid so these are great to travel with. I had a holiday version that I wore on the cruise and I loved having my nails done the whole time!
