Monthly Goals

Happy January 6th!

by agirlandhermutt on January 6, 2014

Happy January 6th! I’m about 6 days behind the rest of the world. Yay! That feels about typical. I feel like this is my New Year’s Day because I spent the first few days of the new year battling a mega cold. Like one that gets you all swollen and snotty. Despite the fact that I’m working through the tail end of this cold I’m ready to GET.TO.WORK. 2014 is going to be the year of being Consistent & Persistent!

ACK! Consistency is not necessarily my strongest personality trait. Hello?! This blog is a perfect example. I’ve left my little spot on the world desolate for days on end at points. I had things to say, but didn’t really want to make the effort to sit down and write things down.

I also really didn’t get consistent with my working out until the last half of the year. Hitting the gym would be a priority for a few weeks and then nuttin’. I would give up for a few weeks and become BFF with my couch. Healthy eating + No workout= No results. Then I had an a-ha type of moment and discovered that I LOVED the gym. I started going often and next thing I knew it was part of my schedule. And I loooove a good schedule.

So this year I’m attacking life hardcore! I’m being consistent and I’m being persistent when it gets tough.

And to start off the year right I made some January goals. I’m focusing on 5 big things this month…

Drink 1 gallon of water a day. I feel better. I look better. I pee like a champ!
Workout 6 days a week. 5 of those are my MShell Fitness workouts and the other is spinning or yoga or some other random class I find.
Get in 3.3 miles a day (outside of working out!) for the Tone It Up #150byVDay challenge.
Track! Use MyFitnessPal for my food and wear my new FitBit Zip. Yay for new gadgets!
Lose 10 lbs. Is this a big goal? Yes. But if I can stick to the 4 above those 10 lbs are just going to melt off. Well, at least it doesn’t hurt to try!

I love doing the monthly goals so I’m going to keep that up as long as it feels right. Sound good?

That covers the fitness department of my life, but what about this little blog?

Well…I’m making a big move. There are a few changes (same name, different look!) coming and I’m putting together a schedule. Heh. I’m really hoping that the minute I say this schedule that it doesn’t just fly out the window.

My plan is to blog Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 3 days a week! Hopefully you will check back to see my Weekly Weigh-Ins, Favorites, workout updates, recipes and just basic life updates throughout the year. I love sharing bits and pieces with you and hopefully this schedule will help me share in a more organized and less snooze-fest way. Of course, I’ll continue posting on a daily basis over on Instagram. Come follow me!

2014 is my year folks. Korky and I are taking life by storm and we are ready to have a fantastic year! Happy January 6th! Let’s do this!

One last, but totally not related, note…tonight is the BCS National Championship game between FSU and Auburn!

I’m a lifelong FSU fan and a 2001 FSU Alumni so I will be war chanting and tomahawk chopping my arm off tonight. I’m ready to see them bring home the championship. GO SEMINOLES!!!

Last post for 2013

by agirlandhermutt on December 31, 2013

Hello! I’m popping in for a quick post to close out the year. 2013 was a fantastic year and I am even more excited for 2014!

Unfortunately I’m ringing out the year a hacking, runny nose mess, but fortunately I didn’t really get sick until getting back from my Christmas vacation.

Christmas in Florida with my family was AMAZING. We had a great time, enjoyed some excellent food and totally embraced a whole lot of family time.

Oh, and we decorated cookies. My family didn’t decorate cookies when I was a kid because we were always traveling to visit family during the holidays. My mom decided to start a new tradition for us and I love it!

(That is an upside down gingerbread man. How cute is that?!)

I definitely missed my BF and the Mutt while I was on vacation.

BUT it was also nice to totally disconnect and be tucked away in my family home bliss. I’m convinced that my parents pipe tryptophan through their house. I just can’t stop napping once I get there!

While I indulged (a lot!) over my visit, I kept my goals for this month in mind.

1. Workout on vacation.
DONE! My mom picked up a week pass at the local gym for me. I managed to hit the gym 6 out of the 9 days I was there! BOOM!

2. Log into MyFitnessPall every day till Christmas.
Not exactly. I did great until I stepped on the plane to go to Florida. Then…poof. I totally forgot about it. I figure 19 days out of the month isn’t so bad though!

3. Drink that water!
Yes. I’m obsessed with Zephyrhills water and my parents provided it freely to me.

4. Get to bed before midnight.

5. Relax.
Easy peasy! This was a big win for me!

Overall it was a successful month for me. What next?! It is time to go hard. January is just around the corner and I’m ready with new goals.

But for now…Happy New Year’s Eve! Be safe and enjoy!

Goals: New and Updated!

by agirlandhermutt on October 1, 2013

I know that I’m supposed to say something like “Where has September gone?!” or something similar, but really…this past month was REALLY, REALLY, REALLY long. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it didn’t pass in the blink of an eye like it did for everyone else. However, I absolutely love October and I’m so excited for all the fun things I have happening this month!

Vacationing. Family visiting. Hoodie wearing. Eek!

But first…lets chat about what happened during this ridiculously long month and see how I did with my September Goals.

1. Go to bootcamp!- I’m happy to report that I am on the last week of bootcamp and I have made it every.single.time! There were a few times where I thought about skipping, but I knew if I went that I would be glad I did. I went and I was glad I did. Surprise! I absolutely LOVE boot camp. I like being outdoors and doing a different workout every single time. It combines my love for group fitness with my need for change constantly. Four weeks is the perfect length of time to see improvements and not get bored. I’m ready to move on to my next fitness adventure, but I will definitely think about signing up for another round in the spring. During the winter they hold it indoors and that just brings up too many memories of P.E. from back in the day. Uh…no thanks.

2. Stay in plan the entire month, including the weekends.- Wellllll, not exactly. During the week I am a superstar, but weekends are HARD! I have a really difficult time sticking to my 6 mini meals on Saturday and Sunday. I don’t eat horribly, but I’m also not doing what I would prefer to be doing. My workouts on the weekend are great, but I’m still struggling with staying on plan and sticking to a regular schedule. Those 2 days are rough! I am constantly battling my urge to sleep till noon.

3. Run 1x/week in addition to bootcamp.- DONE! I did treadmill bootcamp 3 times this month and then ran a few extra times during my 5 mile Challenge workouts. I’m definitely getting better, but my dreams of wearing a Minnie Mouse costume at a Disney marathon are getting smaller and smaller as my knee pains get bigger and bigger. Oh Mickey…

4. After dinner walk.- I would say I was half successful with this goal. I definitely could have done better! Most of the time I just forgot. Oops.

5. Hit 60 lbs by 10/9.- HA! I have 8 days for a miracle to occur. 😉

So what is next?! Well, more goals, of course! TrulyJess is doing another #TrulyCommitted challenge on Instagram and I plan to play along.

PS. Two thumbs up for my uber matchy matchy workout outfit!

1. Hit the 60 lbs down. It has to happen at some point, right?!

2. Get back to yoga at least 1x/week. My usual spinning partner-in-crime, Megan, is doing a 30-day yoga challenge and I want to support her this month!

3. Log into MyFitnessPal every day. Even on those vacation days I want to just log in and track something to keep myself accountable.

4. Get consistent! Wake-up and go to bed at the same time. Why is this so hard?! I’m a grown woman with an alarm clock.

5. Enjoy my upcoming vacations, but not get out of control. One trip is focused on beer. But there is plenty of opportunity to get in some exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. No need to come back with a souvenir beer belly.

If you are on Instagram, you should totally join me (and thousands of other really supportive people)! If you aren’t on Instagram, get crackin’ on that.

I hope you guys are enjoying the first day of October! I can’t wait to bust out the cozy clothes and my fake fireplace.

See you soon with my September favorites.
