Movie Date

by agirlandhermutt on August 5, 2011

“Just because you’ve got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn’t mean we all have."  ~Hermione Granger (my fave quote of all!)

I remember seeing the first Harry Potter book and being totally taken off guard at how they said Hermione’s name. But but but…that isn’t the way I say it! I quickly got over the whole pronunciation snafu and became totally engrossed in the characters. To put faces to names was so surreal and I was instantly transported to a magical land. As an adult seeing these movies I am still just as impressed with the series.

Last night I saw HP for the 2nd time! I’m such a nerd.

Karen hadn’t seen the movie yet and asked me to be her date for the night. Well…I kind of forced her to let me go with her. Whatevs. I saw it the first time in 3D IMAX and the 3D sucked. Seriously. Craptastic. This time we just saw it normal and it was PERFECT.

Before the movie we met up at my favorite pre-movie joint, Chipotle!

I love that place! I’m trying to be more aware of what I’m eating when I go out with friends so I checked out the nutrition facts on my usual dish and made a few changes to help me not totally overdo it. Fun Fact: The flour tortilla for the regular burrito weighs in at 290 calories. Whomp Whomp.

Veggie Burrito Bowl (Burrito Insides-No tortilla): Small scoop of cilantro-lime rice, small scoop of black beans, mild salsa, about 1 tbsp of sour cream and a handful of romaine lettuce.

Not going lie…this bowl was fantastic. BUT! My very own homemade Chipotle-like Bowl was JUST AS GOOD. Score 1 for cooking at home.

For some reason I CAN NOT go to the movies without having some type of snack (i.e. super salty buttery popcorn). It is part of the experience for me! Again, I’m cheap with the $$$ and the calories lately so I took the snacking into my own hands.

Yep. I brought my own popcorn to the movies.Don’t judge.

I brought two of the Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop 100 Calorie bags to much on with Karen. I’m not a big fan of the 100 calorie stuff, but these bags were small enough to get in my purse and perfect for some tiny snacking. This particular popcorn has a weird taste near the end of the bag, but still did the trick.  I just popped them at work, stuck them in my bag and enjoy during the movie!

Overall Ratings for the night:

Chipotle: A
Popcorn: B+
Date (Karen): A+
Non-3D Movie: A+++ (Sorry Karen. If you could do a spells you would get a few more +s)

Its Friday, Friday…gotta get down on Friday! Smile

I have fun plans this weekend with the girlies and then doing some apartment stuff at The Scientist’s. Nothing too exciting. Possibly a trip to the SOWA market on Sunday?!

Have a great weekend kids! See ya Monday!

What are your fave movie snacks? Do you like 3D movies?

Perfect Weekend.

by agirlandhermutt on July 20, 2011

First of all…THANK YOU SO MUCH for the great response on yesterday’s post. I got some great comments and emails. I felt all warm and squishy!

Now on to the good stuff. My weekend recap! The good times actually started on Thursday. I felt like I was in college going out on Thursday, Friday, AND Saturday. Lets get nuts!

I won a pair of tickets from a local bookstore, Brookline Booksmith, for a screening of The Help, Q&A with the Director, and cocktail reception. The Help happens to be one of my favorite books so I was psyched to check it out.

Has anyone read this book? Don’t you just love it?!

A group of ladies watched the movie then hung out with the Director while he and one of the stars answered questions. One of the big things I took from the discussion was the author of The Help submitted the book to 60 people. Finally on the 61st try it was accepted. It has now been on the Best Sellers list for 100+ weeks. How about that for perseverance?!

I really enjoyed the movie. It didn’t knock my socks off, but it was cute and I laughed several times. Hopefully if you see it you will not have to deal with a woman talking back to the screen the ENTIRE MOVIE. Thanks to Megan for holding me back from “sssshhhing” her. Winking smile

The cocktail reception was at Burton’s (whose chef was just on Chopped!) and the food was delish. I sipped on some seltzer and a glass of complimentary wine. I love free.

As we were leaving we were able to snag a picture with one of the stars, Octavia Jackson, who plays Minny in the movie. Do you recognize her? She was the woman who ends up stalking Betty’s dad in Ugly Betty! Unfortunately Megan and I didn’t end up with the best shot, but you get the idea. Winking smile Hello…two celebrity sightings in one week!

Friday night was a bittersweet night for me. I saw the final Harry Potter.  I have no words for how great the movie was. We saw it in IMAX 3D. I could take or leave the 3D part, but the movie was fantastic. *Tear, Tear, Tear*

Saturday I participated in a surprise party. I’ve never actually been to a surprise party and it was just as fun as I imagined!

My wonderful friend Jeanne (possibly one of the nicest people on the planet) hit important digits this year and I’m so glad I was able there to celebrate. Her family threw a wonderful party/dinner!

The food was killer. No seriously. I almost killed myself on my friend, Christie’s, potato salad. I’ll be posting soon with her recipe and my own take on it.

Everything else was fantastic too. And very pretty!

Is there anything more perfect than celebrating a wonderful person?! I think not.

On Sunday my blog world and real world collided when Tiffany of Simply Shaka came to town.

For some reason it took someone from another town to get myself together with some other Boston Bloggers. It was so nice to put some faces to blogs!

We met up for lunch at The OtherSide Café, which has some great veggie and vegan options. The music was a little loud for my tastes (old lady ears FTW!), but the food is always solid.

I went for the Hummus Egg Salad Sandwich. There was a little drizzle of honey over the toasted bread that brought the whole meal together. TAAASSSTY!

We chatted, ate and had a wonderful time. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I love that the blog has brought me to meet so wonderful people!

Phew. I’m exhausted just writing it all down! I managed to see The Scientist and The Mutt a few times in there too. The weekend just flew by. Really great weekends always make it sad to go back to work on Monday, doesn’t it?

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

What is your favorite book/movie combo? Do you have to read the book before you see the movie?

I have to read the book first. Also, if I read a book that has been made into a movie I CAN NOT read the one with the cover that has pictures from the movie on it. No way Jose.

Cartoons Make Me Smile…

by agirlandhermutt on August 3, 2010

I am secretly (or possibly not secretly!) a 5 year old trapped in a 30 year old woman’s body. I have *many* aspects of my personality that make me believe I’m missing a crucial maturity gene. One such personality…my taste in movies.

Tonight I indulged those 5 year old tendencies with a trip to the movies with my partner in crime for the night, Karen! The movie for the night was Despicable Me!

I’ve been dying to see this movie and tonight was the last night for the great 2-for-1 special at the local theatre. Oh my gosh! If you haven’t seen this movie yet you need to RUN to the theatre. Seriously! The combo of Steve Carell, Jason Segal and Russell Brand was fantastic. All funny on their own, but in this movie they just sang to me.

Just so everyone is aware, I will own this movie in the future. I will watch it over and over in a very creepy way. I will be checking in to make sure you have all watched it.

Before the movie I took a minute to hang out with the pup out in the yard so he could run around. I enjoyed a seltzer in my brand spankin’ new glass from Saranac while the pup acted like a nut.

He was quite busy laying around and trying to catch some type of bug. I think the bug won.

How did it get to be Tuesday already?! I’m beat!
