Another day (Day 133)…

by agirlandhermutt on May 14, 2010

Another breakfast!

One of my fave places for breakfast in my neighborhood is Uncommon Grounds. They have awesome fluffy scrambles and some of the best chocolate milk around.

I knew my Dad would love this place because they have a ridiculously large menu. Anything and everything you can think of is contained in this sucker. My Dad loves that!
First stop…Milky Way coffee! Think he got it big enough?

I’m not a coffee drinker, but this really did taste just like a Milky Way. Coffee makers take note. All coffee should taste this way!
For breakfast I got my “regular”. A broccoli, tomato and feta cheese scramble. It comes with homefries and a bagel. Whoa.

Dad got something similar and was proudly a member of the “Clean Plate Club”. 🙂 Up next for the two of us? Fun in Back Bay!

Veggies everywhere!

by agirlandhermutt on May 13, 2010

It is a good thing that my Dad ate such a yummy breakfast because we had a busy day of…gardening! I had plants ready to be put into pots and vegetables ready to start growing.

I’m sad to report that because of all the rain from previous months my garlic got a bit waterlogged. I felt like it was such a waste of time! So sad. 🙁

However, I didn’t want to dwell and figured I will just focus on making my new herbs and veggies the best they can be. I’m still really learning about this whole container gardening thing so keep your fingers crossed for some good results. I’m not asking for a green thumb, but is it too much to ask for a tomato and pepper?!

My herb garden. I went with a few basil plants, chives, oregano, lavender, thyme, and parsley. I also have a little water cress off to the side.
I had a lot of success with my Topsy Turvy last year so it made another appearance this year. Dad helped me put it back together for a repeat year!

I also got a few other goodies planted. I am trying for eggplant, red and yellow peppers, cucumbers, and another attempt at garlic.
I’m warning you now. I’m obsessed with my “garden”. Be prepared for updates and frequent pictures!

Question of the day: Are you a gardener? What is your fave thing to grow? Any tips for a newbie to gardening?!

The Eagle Has Landed (Day 131)…

by agirlandhermutt on May 12, 2010

My dad officially arrived this afternoon! Not only was I excited, but so was Korky. Doesn’t he look excited?! 😉

What a bum.

My Dad got in around dinner time to I whisked him right off to eat at Henrietta’s Table over in Harvard Square. I love the idea that they rely on local farmers and fisherman to keep their kitchen stocked. Our meals were excellent and everything tasted so fresh!

Starting Off-
Blood Orange Ginger Margaritas

Maine Rock Crab Cake, Tartar Sauce, Native Vegetable Slaw with Sorrel Vinaigrette
My Main-
Salmon w/ New Jersey Asparagus and Roasted Potatoes

Dad’s Main-
House Maple Smoked & Grilled Duck Breast, Confit Leg, Native Cranberry Chutney, Port Wine Reduction

Our dishes were spot on. My dad absolutely loved his duck and my dish inspired me to figure out how to grow watercress. I will be back Henrietta!
G’Night Kids!
