The Return of the NOLES…

by agirlandhermutt on November 27, 2010

Can you hear me singing the FSU chant from your house?! If not, rest assured that my neighbors can. After 6 years of a poor showing, Florida State finally beat the crap out of University of Florida. *Phew* Its about dang time!

To make it all that much better…The Scientist is a UF graduate. HAHAHAHAHA! What?! A little rivalry never hurt anyone. Winking smile

Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving FSU and UF play each other. It was awesome when I was in school because we were playing at National Championship levels. Not so much after school. Eek.

There is something amazing about being a Seminole. I started to get all choked up watching the game. Doak Campbell is an amazing stadium with TONS of history.

The FSU players entrance to the game was a-maz-ing. I felt like I was there! Fast forward to the 3:30 mark to get an idea of what its like to be in Seminole Territory!

GO NOLES!

No football watching event is complete without some goodies. My goodies looked like beers.

My local liquor store makes these awesome mixes for the holidays.

We noshed on some homemade edamame hummus, buffalo dip, and other fun items. I continued to enjoy the beer the most though. Winking smile

CHEERS to FSU kicking some Gator tail!

In the end, the final score was 31-7. FSU FTW! I did a little FSU winning dance and then sang the FSU fight song. I have the feeling I’m slightly irritating at times.

We’ve got to fight, fight, fight for F.S.U.
We’ve got to scalp ‘em Seminoles
We’ve got to win, win, win, win, win this game
And roll on down and make those goals
For F.S.U. is on the warpath now
And at the battle’s end she’s great
So fight, fight, fight, fight for victory
The Seminoles of Florida State
F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E
Florida State, Florida State, Florida State
!

Ooohhhh Cosmo! (Day 99)…

by agirlandhermutt on April 10, 2010

It was a sports extravaganza this weekend! Friday night was the Celtics and tonight was the Boston Blazers!

I won Blazers tickets from Healthworks the other day and since I had a great time at the last game I was super excited to go back. After a mediocre dinner at The Fours, The Scientist and I showed up at TD Banknorth just in time for us to hear them announce the Blazer players and watch see the other team, the Minnesota Swarm, come out too. The game also started with a bagpipe player. I wish I would have gotten a better picture of him! It sounded great and was creepily haunting. The last time I saw a bagpipe player in person was at a wedding. Strange but true.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the Minnesota Swarm’s uniforms. I’m pretty sure that the front had a dragonfly on it. The blue and yellow stripes were so distracting and made me giggle.

I did a little better this time getting a picture of the two of us. Not necessarily the most flattering, but at least we are in focus.

The game was great. Lots of awesome plays, but way too many fouls. I was a bit disappointed there weren’t more fights. Is that wrong?

After this game, I did a little digging around online to find out more aboutthe whole National Lacrosse League (NLL). I came across an article that had awhole feature on Dan Dawson, the MVP of the NLL and also a Boston Blazer.According to the article Dawson makes the max salary you can in the NLL and it is…are you ready for this?….$24,650. Seriously?! It ends up that he is a firefighter M-F in Canada, flys towhatever city they are going to play on Friday night, plays on Saturday, andgoes back home next Sunday. My fave player and the goalie, Anthony Cosmo, is aschool teacher for his day job. How cool is that?!

I’m an even bigger fan now.

Go Celtics! (Day 97)…

by agirlandhermutt on April 9, 2010

I marked another one off of my 30 While 30 list…#24 Go to a Celtics game!

I’ve been talking about wanting to see a Celtics game for the past few years. When I say talking I really mean that I have been whining about it. Thanks to Stubhub and The Scientist my dream came true last night. Celtics vs. Washington Wizards!

The Scientist and I met up at Boston Beer Works to have a drink and grab a bite to eat before heading over to the game. I love that they have cider on tap, but for some reason they are always running out of it when I am there! I was able to get just a little droplet of the cider in one glass, but fortunately the Beer Works Imperial Stout was willing to keep me company.
According to The Scientist the Celtics performed miserably. We are talking awful, horrible, gross…you get the idea. I’m not the world’s greatest expert on basketball so I’m taking his world for it. I was just so excited to be there that it didn’t really matter to me whether they won or lost. For the record….we lost. Bummer.

I attempted to get a decent pic of the two of us, but it wasn’t really meant to be.

Try #1
 Try #2
The closest I got  to a decent one was this one, which makes me laugh. I was asking him questions about the uniforms (fashion first!) and took him by surprise with a photo. The Scientist is a huge sports fan in general, but basketball is the ultimate sport for him. I ask all kinds of questions (rules, names of players, why certain colors would be picked to be worn together) and he always has great answers. He could easily be the author of “Basketball for Dummies”. Make it all about the Orlando Magic and he could write the whole book in one night!

Go Celtics!
