The Great Flood 2010

Here comes the rain (Day 83)…

by agirlandhermutt on March 25, 2010

Rain. Again. SERIOUSLY?! I’ve had enough. I think everyone in the Northeast has had enough. I can’t put my couch back in order yet because of the ceiling yet. All kinds of stuff is happening in the basement. And the worst part about it for me…no washer and dryer!

Tonight I had to pack up my dirty clothes and truck them over to The Scientist’s place to do some washing. I *HATE* having to take my laundry out. I never have the right amount of quarters. I have to remember to take my soap. Sigh…it is rough!

Check out my fancy schmancy laundry holder!

Oh, on this rainy day I did get a good laugh in. I drove to work today so I parked in the garage across the street from my office. To access the garage you have to enter this little lobby-like room. Its just the door to the outside and then the door to the elevator. So I was standing at the elevator and saw this evacuation root.
I love that they had to put a sign to tell you to turn around and walk out the same door you just came in. HA!
Keep those fingers crossed the rain is over by the time my big walk comes around this weekend!

Here comes the sun (Day 74)…

by agirlandhermutt on March 16, 2010

The rain has stopped! I can’t express to you how excited I was to see the sun. I woke up and caught a glimpse of sun and instantly felt like an 8-year-old on Christmas morning. I was jumping around and feeling pretty good. That is until I realized that I had to start Project Basement Cleanup 2010.

My Christmas tree in all it’s glory.
One of my MANY ruined books. It is so wet that the pages can be bent and stay.

Getting some things in the sun to dry out.
The washer and dryer is out of commission. The heat still isn’t on. The hot water heater is out of order. I’m tired just thinking about it!

The Great Flood 2010 (Day 73)…

by agirlandhermutt on March 15, 2010

Yep, it is getting worse. This morning I woke up to a text message from my landlord/neighbor letting me know that there was a “few inches of water” in the basement. I went down to check things out and was greeted by at least a foot of water. Seriously?! The basement was a mess. Cardboard boxes breaking apart. Books swelling up. My Christmas tree floating around like a raft in a pool. I did the best I could getting stuff off the ground that wasn’t in plastic containers. Grooooooossss.

See that ugly piece of tile at the bottom of the photo? That is the last step before you are on the basement floor. The water was starting to come over the step and that step is about 1.5 feet from the floor.

I feel like I’m living in a submarine. Water above me, Water below me. Needless to say, Monday is not turning out to be a good day.
