TIU Bikini Series Breakdown: Week 6

by agirlandhermutt on May 18, 2015

Week 6 of the Bikini Series is here! This week the focus is on making the most of your time. Planning, prepping and starting each day off right. I don’t do the morning workout every morning, but I try to do it at least 2x a week. I’ve been doing better with my food prep each week, but this week I decided to prep my workout clothes too. Fingers crossed this helps me get ready each night a little quicker!

Monday
HIIT, Abs & Arms
Cardio:
HIIT Workout! My favorite kind. I like getting it done quickly and efficiently. Check out the new HIIT workout from this year’s Bikini Series,Hitty Bitty Bikini.

Toning: Arms & Abs
They are starting to push it with the workouts. Suggestions include the Bikini Body Routine from last year, this year’s Bikini Arms workout and whatever abs routine you like. My favorite is still The Best Ab Routine. It isn’t a video, but has some great moves.

PM Challenge: Head out for an evening walk!

So I have to say…I’ll be skipping these workouts on Monday. I’m attempting to do a Fly Double. A FlyWheel class followed by a FlyBarre class. There will be plenty of cardio, arms and abs happening. I hope I don’t die.

Tuesday
Cardio & Total Body
Cardio:
30 minutes of low intensity cardio. That means walking, a jog or anything else you can think of. My fave low intensity is the elliptical or the bike.

Toning: They will be releasing a new kettlebell video. Remember, if you don’t have a kettlebell, get one. Kidding. Just use a dumbbell.

PM Challenge: Prepare something sweet! My new favorite snack is freshly washed grapes with a little sugar free jello sprinkled on them and then frozen. I know some people aren’t into SF jello. For those folks, just eat your boring grapes. 😉

Wednesday
Cardio & Buns/Thighs
Cardio:
30 minutes of whatever you want!

Toning: Bikini Buns & Thighs. This video uses an exercise ball. If you don’t have one, almost every exercise can be done using the couch.

PM Challenge: Experiment in the kitchen! Try a new recipe. One of my recent favorites is this Baked Chicken Parmesan recipe from SkinnyTaste. The only thing I did different was use egg whites to do the wash on the chicken before coating it in the bread mixture and I used zucchini noodles instead of pasta.

Thursday
Cardio, Shoulders, & Yoga
Cardio: Mix it up! If you normally run, try taking a spinning class. Try a new workout video. Just do something a little out of your comfort zone.

Toning: Shoulders & Yoga!
Do the Sexy Sculpted Shoulders 3x through. Follow it up with the Bikini Yoga Flow video or a class at your local studio.

Friday
HIIT & Total Body
Cardio: HIIT it up! It is time to do the Hitty Bitty Bikini Workout! Get ready to sweat.

Toning: Total Body
Check out this printable Crop Top workout.

PM Challenge: Cheers! Tone It Up suggests a great Sparking Cider Rose recipe that looks excellent. I love rose. I love cider. It is like a perfect combo.

Saturday
Total Body! There is no slacking on Saturday. They have the schedule jam packed with workouts!

Toning: Total Body
Start with The Mermaid workout. Move on to the Bikini Body 2 workout. And finish it off with the MaliBooty workout. Be prepared to sweat and get those muscles working!

Sunday
Arms
Finish strong! Also, get all that prep in so that you can start your Monday off on the right foot. Lunches ready to go? Workout clothes clean?

Toning: Pick your favorite arms routine. I will definitely be doing my favorite, Summer Arms Routine, and will be giving this Arms & Abs printable a try.

by agirlandhermutt on May 10, 2015

Ok folks! We are officially half way through the Bikini Series! Since meeting K&K last week, I’m even more encouraged to get through the series and make some improvements. I’m ready to go hardcore!

clip_image00161_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb[1]

Monday
Cardio & Total Body
Cardio: 30 mins of whatever you want! My plan is to do a TurboFire video. I have a serious love for choreographed kickboxing.

Toning: Total Body
(Suggestion: TIU suggests Kettletoning and I’m right on board with that suggestion! If you don’t have a kettlebell you can just use a dumbbell.

PM Challenge: Create a list of 10 wonderful things about you!

Tuesday
Cardio, Arms & Yoga
Cardio:
As part of the PM Challenge, TIU challenges you to a Sunset Run. I’m not a runner so instead I’m going to go for a nice walk after dinner.

Toning: Arms & Yoga
There will be a brand new arm toning video on the TIU website. For the yoga piece, you can do their new Bikini Yoga Flow video. Honestly, I found it a *tad* boring and hard to follow so I suggest the Beach Yoga video.

Wednesday
HIIT & Barre
Cardio: HIIT
HITTy Bitty Bikini or if you aren’t into all the jumping in that one, Love Your Body with HIIT.

Toning: Barre
You all know I love Barre, so I will be taking a class at Pure Barre Wednesday morning. For those of you who can’t take a barre class, check out this TIU Barre video. Oh, and if you haven’t tried a barre class yet, YOU MUST. Such a great workout!

PM Challenge: Cozy up with a good book! I just checked out Yes Please by Amy Poehler from the library. I’m ready to dig in.

Thursday
Cardio, Abs & Booty
Cardio: 25 INTENSE cardio!
This Insane Cardio is a little more than 25 minutes, but it totally meets the INTESNE requirement.

INSANE-cardio

Toning: Abs & Booty
Abs: The Sunkissed Abs video is suggested and I’m on board with this one. It is an oldie but goodie!
Booty: Heading to the gym and don’t want a video? Try out this Daisy Dukes workout printable. Prefer to follow a video? Check out the Thailand Tush workout.

PM Challenge: Get out and play! I’ll be taking the dog to the dog park. Which is technically me running around the dog park and getting Korky to follow me around.

Friday
Cardio
Cardio
: Anything you want! I’ll be trying out a new spinning class. Anyone else a spinning junkie?! Also, they don’t have toning on the schedule but I’m signed up for a Bring Your Man to the Barre class. WOOOOOT!

PM Challenge: Spread kindness! Do something nice for your neighbor or someone else if you have jerks for neighbors like I do. Winking smile

Saturday
Cardio
Get outside and do something fun! I’m finally going to bust out the bike. Fingers crossed I can remember how to ride it!

Sunday
Stretch!
Yesssssss. Check out a yoga class or this favorite of mine, Stretch & Release video.

Boston Tone It Up Book Signing

by agirlandhermutt on May 8, 2015

Have I mentioned that I am a fan of the Tone It Up girls? Maybe a few times?! For those of you who don’t give a crap about TIU, you should *really* skip this post. For those of you who can appreciate a fangirl moment, read on!

Tone It Up recently wrote a book called “Fit, Fierce & Fabulous” and went on a book tour to celebrate. Their second stop on the tour was Boston. I’m not normally someone who likes to meet her favorites. For example, I went to Bob’s Burgers Live a few weeks ago. We had the opportunity to get VIP tickets and meet the cast. Uh no. What if they were all jerks?! Then my favorite tv show would be finished! I love all things celebrity, but I like them from afar. So despite this weirdo issue I have, I knew I HAD to meet them.

I gathered up my friend, Megan, and we headed down to the Prudential Center on Wednesday afternoon. The event was from 5p-7p and I got there about 4:30. There were already about 200 people in line!

I did NOT get the memo that this was a dress up event. Everyone there was just so damn cute. Fortunately I had decided to get it together for work that day and had put this outfit on.

As I stood in line I had thought about what I would say to them when I finally met them. I wanted to share my story about how I found them and have been following them for years, but I knew it wouldn’t ever come out the way I wanted.

Fortunately Kat kind of fixed the whole what to say problem. As I walked up to say whatever dumb thing I was going to mumble, she said “You have mermaid hair!” Which folks, was kind of true that day. And the main reason I have that hair is because I follow a little tidbit of hair advice I got from Kat herself in an old TIU video. Dry your hair with a tshirt. Right then and there I knew what to say to them! I told them about my tshirt tip and they knew how long I had been following their workouts/videos.

A few things…

I’m not super short. I’m 5’3”. Apparently they are quite tall. I always knew Karena (the brunette) was tall, but I never realized how tall Kat was too.

I didn’t take pictures of Kat’s parents or her husband. There were plenty of folks who did though. I’m talking like freaking out screaming when they saw them.

The event was super organized, but it moved really fast. Get it and get out. I don’t know what I would have talked about if I had more time, but I also didn’t have to worry about that. 😉

These ladies have the best fashion sense. Check out Karena’s acid wash denim romper. How great does it look on her?!

I’m so glad that I went to meet them. It was worth the fangirl moment.

Once we were done with the book signing, Megan and I headed over to FlyWheel to do a little sweating. Like crazy sweating. When I got off the bike it looked like I had peed all over myself and the floor. I was officially the gross girl.

But not gross enough to go to Sweetgreen for dinner.

$11+ for a salad and drink. And worth every penny. I’ve tried a few salads but I found a new favorite, the Hummus Tahina. Yes, yes, yes.

clip_image00161_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb1_thumb[1]

I realize that I’m a 35 year old woman who has an obsession with TIU. Similar to a teenager and their love for One Direction? Minus the tears, of course. But honestly…they helped me get into fitness and start getting healthy. Doing their videos in the comfort of my own home showed me that I could do it. I could do the moves. I liked to sweat. I improved every time I worked out. Over the years I’ve dabbled with tons of other workouts, nutrition programs and healthy living challenges and I enjoyed *almost* all of them. But the one thing that I have always kept in my pocket to bust out when I didn’t know what to do was TIU workouts.

So thanks K&K for years of health and fitness…and a few great hair tips!
