TGIF? (Day 119)…

by agirlandhermutt on April 30, 2010

It was a BUSY day. Both at work and outside of work. My landlord has asked that the basement be completely cleaned out so they can do a little clean up work and disinfecting down there (remember my flood situation?). I’m happy to oblige but they want it done ASAP. Coincidentally, my church is having a rummage sale tomorrow morning and is looking for donations. Clean out the basement now = Donate to a rummage sale!

There was one*tiny* little problem. My burnt fingers from yesterday! I’m still in quite a bit of pain and it is a bit hard to bend them. Can you see the little wrinkles? Those are the burns. Fortunately it doesn’t look like I am going to have any major damage but they still smart!

The Scientist came to my rescue to come help me schlep stuff out to the garage. I also went through almost all of the boxes to purge, purge, purge. I’m going to be finished with #8 from my 30 While 30 in no time!

By the time we were done with the moving of boxes around and dropping stuff off at the church it was like 9:30. How did it get so late?!

I had big plans to make these black bean burgers and parsnip fries but I just couldn’t get to it. Look at those lonely parsnips. :(

Instead I had a totally satisfying meal that consisted of dairy and fruit. Otherwise known as wine and cheese.

No worries though. There were no complaints from The Scientist. I think he probably preferred this to some of my “experimental cooking”.

It is time to hit the hay! I’ve had the longest day ever and tomorrow is my final endurance walk for the Avon Walk. 20 miles on Saturday and 10 on Sunday! Wish me luck!

G’night kids!

The Big Apple!

by agirlandhermutt on April 22, 2010

I’m writing to you, my little blog friends, from the BoltBus (who have FREE WiFi!). Why you ask? I’m on my way to NYC! I’m taking a few days to visit my wonderful friend Meg, bounce around the city to take some photos and hit up the MoMA’s Tim Burton exhibit. Can you guess how excited I am?!

Tons of photos to update with soon!

Until then some parting words from one of the ultimate wordsmiths.

“New York!!!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York!!!
These streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York, New York, New York!”

Random (Day 89)…

by agirlandhermutt on April 1, 2010

It is April Fool’s Day! What better way to celebrate than telling you a few random things.
Random Item #1
I’ve always got something on the nightstand/in my bag/on the coffee table to read. Some have been good. Some have been bad. A few of been fantastic! This is the latest read for me.

So far, I’m loving it! It is a memoir about a young mormon living in NYC. She is misguided not only on how life works but also some of the things that her religion teaches her, or how she thinks they are being taught. She isn’t the most sympathetic person, but she is real and it is an easy (and funny at times!) read.

Random Item #2

Want to see how I keep up with my training for the Avon Walk?

Each day at work I mark off what I did the night before. It feels great to mark off another day of getting out there and working it. Plus I can see how close the walk is. Can you see how few boxes are left to mark off?!
Random Item #3
I love string cheese. True story. I also love garlic bread. Another true story.

Meet my newest obsession, String Cheese “Garlic Bread”.

The cast of characters (which I don’t have photos of everything):

-string cheese
-garlic seasoning (I use Tastefully Simple Garlic Garlic. This stuff is the best.thing.ever.)
-a little spray of PAM

Spray a little PAM in the pan and sprinkle garlic seasoning. As the pan starts to heat up, quickly roll one side of the string cheese in the seasoning. Place the string cheese, seasoning side up, in the pan and let it sit there to melt. Once the cheese has melted almost 80%, pull it out of the pan to cool down.

The bottom of the cheese will be a little burnt but that is what makes it like a garlic stick. Slightly gross looking, but oh so yummy!

Have a good night!
