Keeping my head up…

by agirlandhermutt on January 31, 2011

I’m trying to keep my spirits up, but I think I suffer from a little form of SAD. This whole being cooped up because of cold or snow takes a lot out of me.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not really complaining about snow in general, just the amount of snow we have gotten in not even a month.

The other night I woke up to take Korky for his 5am walk and found this.

He wasn’t having much of this whole snow thing so we made our way back inside to wait it out. At 8am we were greeted with this.

Yea, not much better. We tried to trudge through but Kork is only so big and he is only so brave. We did the best we could and then made our way back inside so I could get to work. The roads weren’t horrible but it was nearly impossible for me to get my car out of its home.

Yes, that is my SUV hanging out in the mounds of snow. This was taken from the top of my stairs at the back of my house.

Lets do a little recap on what the back of the house looks like on a warm and wonderful day.

With just a little bit of snow…

Snowpocolypse!

My poor HAIRY little monster isn’t dealing with this well.

I snuggled up with the monster and kept him as snuggly as possible. That’s what you do on a snow day, right?! Oh, and don’t make fun of Korky’s hair. We are working on getting a grooming appointment. This pup cuts his hair more than I do!

We are expecting another 21 inches starting tomorrow. Uh huh.

In the meantime, I’m doing things around the house to keep me feeling as cozy and happy as possible. Project Happy Apartment is in full effect! *Insert insane applause and laugher!*

Stay tuned for some before and afters of all the fun work I’m doing around the house!

Master Tuber…

by agirlandhermutt on January 23, 2011

First thing first…I got a few tweets, comments and messages asking me about one of my Fantastic Four answers.

3. Four words/phrases I use a lot
I’ll give you $1…

Just to give you an idea of how I use the phrase it typically goes down like this.

ME: I’ll give you $1 if you can guess who had toilet paper stuck to her shoe…AGAIN.
Coworker: Ha! You are so wrong.

ME: I’ll give you $1 if you will pour me a glass of wine.
The Scientist: You are such a bum…and a lush. Keep your $1. Winking smile

I’ve also used it on this blog before! I never even realized till I did a little digging around. Check out here, here, and here.

Weekend Warrior!

Its official. I could be in the Olympics for snow tubing. Watch for me in 2014!

Over the weekend The Scientist and I dressed up in about 10 layers of clothing and hit the slopes at Amesbury Sports Park. Neither of us had been tubing so we were looking for something low key and close by.

For $22 each we were able to get 3-hours of tubing. You have your choice of riding up the people mover, a moving sidewalk that takes you and your tube to the top of the hill.

OR you can sit in your tube and ride up the hill in style.

Once you get to the top of the hill, pick your perfect place to drop your tube, and go to town!

Even though we were bundled up I could feel a few icicles forming on my nose stud. How gross is that!?

We managed to go down quite a few times until our little hands couldn’t take the cold any longer. Brrr!

Tubing=FUN! We decided that our next adventure is going to be learning how to snowboard. I’ve been skiing once and I don’t think two skis are for me. For those in the area, any ideas on where I should go to learn?! What equipment should I bring that I can’t rent?!

Oh, and thank goodness we went on a Saturday. On Sunday I watched Frozen. Oh heck no.

Not the best movie ever but enough to make me rethink going on a ski lift a little. EEK! Winking smile

Hope you had a great weekend! Give me some snowboarding tips!

PS. I took a video of the two of us flying down the hill. Unfortunately I cackle like the witch from the Wizard of Oz for the entire video. HA! Next time!

Walking in a Winter Wonderland!

by agirlandhermutt on January 12, 2011

Around 1a or so this morning it started…the snow. You may ask, “What the heck were you doing up at 1a?” Ahh. Good question. Korky. The answer is Korky. He is a old dog and has a tendency to want to go outside at the most awkward times. Good thing he is cute!

As it started to snow, it started to immediately lay.

Nothing major but spoke much of the future.

Of course Korky had to check out the snow to remember that he HATES snow.

I was spot on that it was going to be MAJOR in the morning. I woke up to a true Winter Wonderland. SNOW DAY!

I was fortunate to be one of the few that still had electricity. We were hanging on by a thread though!

Of course, Korky needed to get out so I decided to go on a little photo shoot. A short photo shoot. Very short. Smile

The weight of the snow was already starting to show that we would be facing some clean up in the future. Buried cars. Messy sidewalks. Broken trees.

Korky and I felt like we were the only people that were on the face of the planet. Kind of a creepy but freeing feeling!

Someone got his head a little too close to a snow mound though. Poor guy.

I knew it was time to go in when Kork gave me his super sad “let me in” look!

Please?

PLEASEEEEE?!

As we went inside I did a little inspecting in the backyard. Whoa.  I guess no grilling?

After putting a solid day of work at home, I took the plunge and trekked down to the square to meet up with The Scientist and go in search of some lunch.

Fortunately some of the sidewalks were cleaned off. Not all though and when they weren’t, they REALLY were not.

I found him! Don’t worry. I had my hood up. I just was readjusting my hair. Its hard to have a ton of hair when it has to be up in a hat. This bowling ball doesn’t tame well.

We ended up on the bus to Harvard Square!

Dark & Stormy with some Mulled Wine to warm up a VERY cold day.

Its going to be a few days of clean up before we can easily get around but I’m so glad that for the most part the streets are clean and everyone is safe & warm. I’m secretly hoping that it sticks around for a bit so I can get some snowshoeing in!

Are you a snow person? Did you get any snow today?!
